David Unsworth's Testimonial
Everton 0 Athletic Bilbao 1,
Goodison Park, Saturday 10 August 2002
Seven days before the start of the new Premiership season, David Unsworth was rewarded for his loyality to Everton with a testimonial match against La Liga side Athletic Bilbao.

'Rhino' first joined The Blues when he was 13 years old. He made his first team debut aged 18 during the 1991/92 season when he came off the bench to score Everton's equaliser in a 3-3 draw at White Hart Lane.

David has seen many highs and lows during his 10 years at Goodison Park. He's played his part in a couple of successful battles against relegation, came within an inch of a UEFA Cup place in 1996, and of course was an FA Cup Winner with the Blues in 1995.

Baring his reluctant season with West Ham, and a very brief spell with Aston Villa, Unsy has spent his entire footballing career wearing Everton's royal blue jersey. Long may it continue.
As for the match, it was nothing spectacular. There was almost a fairytale moment when Unsworth slid in to meet a cross, but unfortunately his shot hit the side netting.

The Blues went down 1-0 with a goal by Ismael Urzaiz just before half time.
