After consecutive away defeats at Manchester City and Southampton, Everton desperately needed to beat Middlesbrough to get their season back on track. And that's just what they did, although for a while it looked unlikely! 'Boro took the lead after only 10 minutes. The impressive Massimo Maccarone charged into the Blues' penalty area and saw his shot parried by Paul Gerrard into the path of Szilard Nemeth, who had a tap-in from eight yards out. The Teesiders played some excellent football but were pulled back by the Blues after 32 minutes. Tomasz Radzinski's header came back off the post but Kevin Campbell was on hand in the six yard box to roll in the equaliser past the helpless Mark Schwarzer. 'Boro had the better of the first half, but the same can be said about Everton in the last 45 minutes. |

| Wayne Rooney was brought on for the second half and his pace and skillful attacking play made a huge difference to Everton. Everton dominated, but 'Boro always looked a threat on the counter. Everton's winner came on 76 minutes and again Campbell was the scorer. Thomas Gravesen took a corner from the left and Super Kev climbed highest inside the area to power a header into the corner of the net. 'Boro were perhaps unfortunate not to take at least a point from the game but the Evertonians will feel they deserve the win after dominating previous matches and coming away empty handed! Everton; Gerrard, Hibbert, Weir, Stubbs, Unsworth, Li Tie , Gravesen, Pembridge, Alexandersson (Rooney 46), Campbell, Radzinski (Carsley 82). Subs not used; Simonsen, Li Wei Feng, Linderoth. Goalscorers; Campbell 32, 76. Attendance; 32, 440. |
