7 Days of Magic
From Publishers Weekly
Magic doesn't have to be just for holy days and Sabbats, says
Dugan, a self-described "garden witch" who has practiced witchcraft
for 15 years. Magic can also bring energy to everyday life,
and can punctuate the rhythm of days and weeks. This well-designed
book features seven chapters, one for each day of the week,
and (you guessed it) seven divisions within each chapter,
as Dugan highlights aspects of each day: accessories; applications
and attributes; deities; plants and flowers; colors, candles
and crystals; tarot associations; and foods and spices. Pagan
readers will appreciate the step-by-step approach and the
detailed information about the history and lore of the days
of the week (all hail Woden and Thor!). Friday, which is named
after the Norse goddess of love, turns out to be a special
time for romance, so Dugan offers the expected passion and
fertility spells. This book will be useful to novice practitioners,
who may find it a winsome invitation to incorporating magic
into daily life, and to women who are interested in Wicca.
The book's layout is attractive and Dugan's writing style
is hip and on-target for her audience (Lilith, for instance,
is described as "the original bad-ass chick").

Easy to understand, easy to use and just plain fun, Ellen Dugan's latest book from Llewellyn, 7 Days of Magic, is a jewel. Dugan presents to us an engaging little book detailing sympathetic magick based on the planetary designations of the days of the week. As each of the days of the week is named for one of the planet's (Saturn-day, Sun-day, Moon-day, etc), they also carry that planet's energetic charge. The beauty of Dugan's book is that all of the various correspondences--planetary herbs, plants, stones and gems, etc-- are organized in a format that is easy to use. Each day of the week is presented with a lovely synopsis of its lore. The source of many old superstitions is revealed to go straight back to Roman days, when astrology and other types of divination were used to direct civic events. Suggestions for meditative work and spells help the reader integrate these daily energies into their spiritual practices. Dugan helps the reader ground themselves in the energy of these magickal days through creating shrines and altars with approproate colors and objects. Spells and ritual work distill an intention framed by the day's energy, and then suggest ritual "props" to support the intention, through incense and oils, plants, herbs, stones, candles, and elemental energies. For those wishing to connect with these energies through a divine source, Dugan suggests a God and Goddess pair for each day. To be inclusive as possible, these Deities come from numerous pantheons, but each one carries the energy of their day beautifully. The ideas for ritual work are intriguing and creative. For those who want to create their own rituals, Dugan's suggestions really help in refining a focus and executing an effective personal ritual utilizing these paletary energies. Highly recommended. RATING: 4 Broomsticks.

The Diva Digest
The self-described "late bloomer" author who previously penned
Garden Witchery and Elements of Witchcraft has scored yet
again with this lovely and deceptively comprehensive compendium
of correspondences. I use the word "deceptively" because at
first glace, one might think the book was a whimsical, fluffy-bunny,
New Age nod to the power of the seven days of the week or
possibly a sweet book of daily affirmations. Sadly, the packaging
might cause more experienced but less investigative Witches
to dismiss it as such, which would be a major mistake.
Spells, charms, plants, flowers, deities, colors, stones,
tarot, foods, planets and much, much more, you'll be able
to fine tune any spell work, as well as incorporate attunement
to the days of the week into your daily life.
7 days is quite simply, the most complete and useful book
of its kind that I have ever encountered. There are very few
magickal correspondences one could possibly ever need that
are not included in this wonderful volume. Liberally peppered
with appropriate quotes, the book is very friendly and inviting,
yet still extremely educational and resourceful. From acknowledgements
to appendices, it is a real gem. I'd put it in the Thursday
affiliations. Ms Dugan, we are SO glad you bloomed.
