The Enchanted Cat: Feline Fascinations, Spells & Magick

Rountable Reviews
This book begins simply with a line in the index, "What makes cats so captivating. . .their untamed spirit." And, this basic bit of text really sums up THE ENCHANTED CAT. This is a book about the spirit of the cat--their curiosity, their brilliance, their grace, and above all their enchanting spirit. It is a book that captures the imagination and warms the heart.

Incorporating philosophy, mythology, history, and literature, Ellen Dugan brings us the unadulterated cat. There are chapters on cat deities, feline folklore, cat magick, and the history of the cat, as well as charms and spells (for you and your cat) and a magical journal. And, each chapter begins with a heartwarming pen sketch of a cat in action, as well as a quote that illustrates the nature of the cat. This book is a treat for the eyes--and the soul. Brilliantly written and illustrated, THE ENCHANTED CAT is a must-have for any cat-lover. I have four cats of my own and I certainly saw their antics reflected on every page. Ms. Dugan's love of the cat is obvious and welcoming. Her prose is witty, yet cozy--just the remedy for a long and tiring day.

If you are a fan of Ms. Dugan's previous works, THE ENCHANTED CAT will make a welcome addition to your library. If you are a cat lover, this is a book you simply cannot be without. THE ENCHANTED CAT has all the grace, beauty, and poise of the felines it immortalizes. Don't miss a chance to bring the wisdom of cats into your home! Good work, again, Ms. Dugan! Tarot Reader Magazine UK
This new book by the “Garden Witch” Ellen Dugan will definitely appeal to all cat lovers who have an interest in magick. The chapters include The Wisdom of Cats, Cat Deities, Folklore & Divination, Cat Magick & Astrology, Power Animals, The Feline Familiar and Charms & Spells. The final chapter contains Correspondence Charts for Cat Magick.

All of the chapters are packed with information. For example, the chapter about Cat Deities includes details not only about well-know deities such as Bast and Sekmet, but also details about deities who are associated with cats, including Diana, Dianus, Aradia and Freya. Very clear and concise instructions are given for all the spells and rituals. The author usually starts by giving background information to each spell, followed by a list of all the items required, then a step-by-step guide to casting the spell and performing the ritual. Almost all of the items needed are inexpensive and easy to find.

There are several references to Tarot cards, plus details of a five-card ‘Cats Paw’ Tarot spread. As always, Ellen writes in a lively and informal style and includes stories about her own and her family's experiences of magickal cats. The first page of each chapter is illustrated by amusing pen and ink drawings of cats, by Kerigwen.

Finally, I must mention the Ritual & Meditation for Parting and The Temple of Bast Meditation. Both of these are designed to help cat owners accept the loss of a beloved pet. I am sure that many cat owners will gain comfort from these two meditations.
This is an accessible, entertaining and informative book about cat mythology and folklore, plus many cat-related spells and rituals. I enjoyed reading it and can thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting to discover the magickal wisdom of cats.

The Diva Digest
If you are a cat-centric Pagan, this is a book that is not to be missed. Specifically geared toward magick, there is nothing that comes to mind in the realm of cat fascination that is not well and truly covered in this interesting book. Ms Dugan has again distinguished herself with her easy style of writing and her innate ability to cover a vast amount of information with as few words as possible. The book is succinct, but power packed, covering everything from cat astrology to cat spells to lore to elemental and deity affiliations in regard to our feline companions. Interwoven into all of these topics (and more) are practical ideas about healthy cat rearing, proving again that the author can deliver helpful and interesting information in a way that is stimulating and fascinating.
