Definition Account Planning is a hybrid discipline that bridges the gap between traditional research, account management, and creative direction whereby agency people represent the view of the consumer in order to better define and plan the client's advertising program.

Roles An Account Planner has the responsibility to fullfil several roles or tasks:
  • intermediary between the agency and the client concerning campaign details
  • data analyst
  • focus group moderator
  • media planner
  • writing the creative brief
  • briefing media, creative and research staff andformulating strategies
  • meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks
  • seeking new business (clients)
  • becoming familiar with the new client's product, business culture, and competition
  • presenting campaign plans to client and seeking approval or modification
  • writing reports and managing the campaign and its budget
