Cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions in the skin The basic strategy of our research is to elucidate molecular interaction of the skin homing T cells /B cells/ macrophages and antigen presenting cells with skin resident cells and extra cellular matrix in diseases.
The disease models are:
Immunopathology of leprosy spectrum and reactions with the aim of establishing biomarkers for early prediction of risk for nerve damage ; similarly immunopathology of cutaneous Leshmaniasis with the aim of establishing the disease course related treatment.
Leprosy / Leishmania
s
Pigment cell disorders such as autoimmune vitiligo, leprosy and melanoma immunity;
Melanoma / Vitilligo
Hyperproliferative keratinocyte disorders e.g. psoriasis/basal cell carcinoma in respect to the role of inflammatory cells.
Psoriasis
Immune sensitisation as in allergic contact dermatitits;
Contact sensitizers
Other relevant studies: knowledge gained from these studies is being extrapolated to other inflammatory disorders eg. vascular , gut diseases. Consequently, diagnostic patients materials are being used primarily. In parallel, experimental models (e.g. ex-vivo and in vitro generated skin equivalent as well as Xenotransplanted human skin onto SCID mice) and in vitro cultured skin cells are used, to understand the molecular and immunological pathways involved in cutaneous inflammatory and oncological disorders.
