| This was such a sweet premiership, as in the weeks leading up to the start of this season we were unsure if we would even have a team or not. When you win a premiership there are so many things that must happen and most of them have to be right. The first thing we have done right this year is open the doors to people from outside the police station to be part of our group. The new players to our club this season all contributed to the success we obtained culminating in our fourth grand final win in the last six years.
The star recruit was Peter McGaffin who amassed a huge total of 691 runs for the year to add to his 21 catches whilst keeping. Peter also won the association batting award and gained selection in the A reserves team of the year. We can't wait to see him carry on this form in coming years for EWCC. We also picked up James Tudhope who starred in several games for us and was always stunning in the field. He will be better for the run this year and will get more chances in the future. Nigel Forsyth swapped his Roos jumper for a Shark's jumper and he and the club reaped the rewards. Nigel took 22 wickets and several important catches and also, scored many valuable runs in a season that he will remember for a long time. Our other recruits included Ambo 5tephenson, Nick Todd, Brad Masters all these blokes had a strong input in all games they played and EWCC will benefit in the coming seasons from their energy and skills. The other star for EWCC this season was our gun bowler Paul "Unit" Velthuizen, Paul managed to add 37 wickets to his bag this year and also showed some mighty hitting in the lower order and will be missed due to his transfer back to Adelaide. Paul also made the team of the year and also shared the prestigious Player of The Year award from the association. E'WCC has been ripped off a couple of great cricketer's this year due to them wanting to further their careers {who cares about that} we lost Paul we have also lost the services of Richard Norris who has been a great clubman for EWCC and Jim Jeffery also left, Guv had been a valued member of our team with his swing bowling and his antics on and off the field. In saying all that, we believe that EWCC is as strong as it has ever been and wouldn't be this way if it wasn't for our great sponsors. This year we added the Westland Hotel as our major sponsor, Darren Beare let us make the front bar our new "home". Phil Hart was once again our Patron and his and Darren's support was sensational and much appreciated. There are always so many people to thank after all the help we receive during the season, all the sergeants at the police station for helping with shift changes, Kym Masters for umpiring, Polky for being vice president again and Kyme Myers for all that he does for the club. Darren Stacey for doing the esky, Chris Vasey for doing the kit and more importantly being vice captain to this mob. This has been one of the most pleasing years of cricket I have played and can't wait for the next season to start MUDGEY |
