Sharks go down in Grand Final
Well in a complete turn around of events, the boys have put in a massive 2nd half of the cricket season and have had an undefeated run up to the finals to set up a replay of last years Grand Final versus the Riflle Club. This would have to be a record in Whyalla Cricket as this was East's 8th Grand Final in row since coming into the competition 8 years ago.

It was an important toss to win as the temperature pushed up towards 40 degrees. Tim won the toss, which made it 3 for 3 in the finals and we set off to make a total we could hopefully defend and in the process making sure we kept the Rifle Club out in the heat for the full 40 overs.

Tim and Pete got us off to the start we needed, putting on 50 odd off 12 or 13 overs. From there, things got a bit sticky with the middle order not being able to capitalise on the great start. We went from 1 for 50 odd to 7 for 80 and the bottom order was under the pump again to get us up to a defendable score. The fall of constant wickets really hurt us and a big partnership we were looking for didnt eventuate. Johnny Vlachoulis was our stand out batsmen for the Sharks with an outstanding  57no and with the help of the bottom order getting the score to a more than respectable 167 from our 40 overs. Others to do well with the bat were Mudgy with 29 and Gaf with 20.

After a well deserved break by both clubs, we went out to field and hopefully bringing home another premiership for the club. The Rifle Club changed their batting line up and brought in a big hitter to get quick runs. Unfortunately it worked as the bowlers struggled to get their line and length happening. Some loose bowling combined with some sloppy fielding and lucky bounces took some of the pressure off the Rifle Club. We managed to scratch up to 5 wickets, but by then the game was over and we were left to ponder what might have been. Crofty did well behind the stumps with
2 catches and a stumping.
To those guys that missed out on playing in the grand final, you guys are just as much apart of this team and you are responsible in getting the team into the grand final.

Despite the loss, we have NOTHING to be dissapointed about after starting the season with 2 forfeits in our first 2 games and being 1 win and 5 loses after 6 games. A huge committment from everyone involved has seen yet another fantastic year for the club. A HUGE THANKS to Wayne and PJ who never hesitated in coming over to the club to make up numbers at the start of the year when the club was really doing it tuff and strggling to get a team together. A big thanks also to JV, Booger and Jeff for coming over from other clubs and being a big part of the seasons success.

Last but not least.....To our fabulous wives, girlfriends and supporters that have come out and supported the team throughout the year THANK YOU VERY MUCH
