Taz's Vintage Chevy Vanfest 2001 George Flament from Waukegan has graciously hosted a get together for all early GM vans at his home in Waukegan, Il. Taz's Vintage Chevy Vanfest 2001 was held Labor Day weekend, Sept, 2nd and 3rd., 2001. Two members from the Eastpointe Early's, Gregg and Duane, had decided to caravan their 1970 GMC's for the trip from Detroit to Waukegan. One Early headed down the freeway might get a look, but 2 will definetly attract some attention ! Things didn't quite go according to plan though. See update below. Thanks Taz !
Hot Dawg !! My van is back on the road after a 2 year hiatus. Almost 2 years to the day that I wrecked my Early, things started to happen. A front clip and door were finally located with help from Gregg, and with more luck then I think I deserved, it was almost delivered to my doorstep. Well, actually, it was !! That was mid June of this year, 2001, and after 2 months of reconstructive surgery, she is almost looking like she did before the accident. A photo gallery to document the work will be added to the website as soon as time allows

Taz's Vintage Chevy Vanfest and the 2 vans that didn't make it ! Gregg and I ( Duane ) left Detroit headed to Waukegan, Il. about 2:30 Sat. afternoon in good spirits. Both vans were perfoming fine till about Jackson, Mich. when the fan belt on Gregg's 70' decided it wanted to leave the van. Shortly after that, the temp went up and we were forced to stop in a Meyers Parking lot to survey the damage. Not too bad, just the belt, but it took about 2 hours to get the belt and change it. Back on the road ! Twenty more miles and the bottom pulley decides that it wants to leave the motor and does just that. If you know the GM 6 cyl's, it's a pressed on pulley and not bolted on and a repair like that on the road was not an option and our trip to Waukegan was over. Gregg went out the next day and pulled the driveshaft from the van and flat towed it back home. Taz, next year for sure !!
