Message From The Director December 11, 2006 Hello all. I come bearing tidings of great joy! East Montgomery won the title of "Best Band" in the Star Parade! This is a great send-off for us as we travel to Albemarle tonight for the Stanly Co. Parade. If any of you have seen those shiny black shoes around the house, make sure they get to the band room before 4:00...they will need them. Also, remember our band booster meeting tomorrow night at 6:30pm in the HS band room and our concert this Thursday at 7:00pm (students in place by 6:30pm). Thanks to everyone who has helped the band get to where it is today. Mr. Rorie * * * * * November 27, 2006 This weeks parade schedule is as follows: Please remember black khaki pants of the right description. Students in the wrong kind of pants or shoes will not be allowed to march. Pants can be brought in to me for approval this week if there are questions. 10:30 students meet at high school band room for parade practice 12:00 load bus 12:30 depart for Mt. Gilead 1:00-2:00 unload/line up/warm-up 2:00 parade begins estimated return time: 4:00 The Star parade will follow the same basic schedule, but with a meet time of 11:00 am. (Students who live in Biscoe and south should ride the bus, please) For the Albemarle parade, middle school students will report to the band room when they are dismissed from school. We will depart from the band room around 5:00pm. Return time is estimated to be 8:30-9:00pm. The Holiday Concert will be December 14th at 7:00pm in the Jackson Auditorium at East Montgomery. This will include all grades (6th HS). Students must be in place by 6:30pm for set-up and warm-up. Concert dress will be black bottom (w/ black socks and shoes) and white top (no t-shirts, please). * I need at least 1 more chaperone for the Mt. Gilead and Star parades. Currently, only 1 chaperone is confirmed for the Albemarle parade. Please contact me if you can be a chaperone for this parade! * * * * * November 9, 2006 Our parades are quickly approaching and we need to be ready to look and sound as good as possible. We will be wearing full uniforms in the parades, which means we need to size and fit all 7th, 8th and HS band members. Since people this age tend to grow, everyone needs to be fitted even if they wore a uniform last year. This means I will need your help in getting this done. If any of you have a free enough schedule to be able to come out and fit students, that would be very helpful. A tentative date for this is Nov 22nd. If you can clear your schedule for that time, it would be greatly appreciated. 7th and 8th grade bands will be part of the Parade Band this year. The Parade Band will march in the Mt. Gilead (Dec. 2, 2pm), Star (Dec. 9, 2pm), and Albemarle (Dec. 11, 6pm) Christmas parades. These parades are performances and count as a grade. We will be wearing uniforms for these parades. In order to make sure we look professional, I am requiring all students to wear the same style of pants and shoes. Pants should be black khaki (not faded). Pants should not have: leg labels, loops, flared legs, cargo pockets or be: low-rise, form-fitting, sagging or torn around the bottom. Students without proper pants will not be allowed to march. Wal-Mart has Puritan Black Soot pants for $9.86. Marching shoes MUST be ordered through the band boosters. These shoes will cost $20. Both shoes and pants can be used for concert dress when the students will be expected to wear black pants/shoes and white shirts. Money for these items needs to be turned in by November 21st. If there are any questions, please contact me at [email protected] or call me at either school. Mr. Rorie * * * * * October 31, 2006 I feel that the bands have made a good amount of progress so far this year. The semester is still far from over and I hope the same amount of progress can be made throughout the rest of it. We will be marching in three parades in December. These parades are Mt. Gilead, Star and Albemarle. The Albemarle parade has a $500 prize for the "band with the most Christmas spirit". I think with some creativity and positive work, that we can take home this award! I was very pleased to see the amount of turnout for the 6th grade concert on October 26th and even more impressed with the way that everyone pitched in to help move equipment. This kind or work and dedication to the program from parents and friends will take us a long way! Mr. Rorie * * * * * September 19, 2006 I was very glad to see everyone out last night at the meeting/social! I believe we had between 25 and 30 in attendance. If we continue to have that amount of participation (and more) the band will be able to have almost everything it needs and go where it needs to go. I hope everyone had a good time and got an idea of exactly what is needed to help the band grow and improve. Remember that anyone can be a band booster, so tell a friend, local music lover, former graduated band member! Remember that meetings are the second Tuesday of each month (next meeting October 10th) at 6:30pm in the EMHS and room. I look forward to seeing everybody there and getting things going! Mr. Rorie |
