Executive Meeting — September 6, 2000 7:30 pm — Port Williams School

Members present: Tim Ciappara, Brian Rhodenizer, Alice Ciappara, Carrie Hemmings, Mary Lou Conrad, Peter Baldwin, Mike Cochrane, George Curry, Peter Hayes, Reid Johnson, Joanne Reid, Mike Roger, Robin Foley, Paul MacKay, John Curry.

Meeting commenced at 7:45 pm.

Mary Lou read the minutes of the previous meeting which were accepted as read.

Tim advised the the hockey school announcement had been submitted to "The Advertiser" for publication. Robin Foley will be coordinating the hockey school. Paul will work registration for school and write receipts. Paul also said there is outstanding gear and sweaters that must be collected.

Peter Baldwin asked about advertisng for the AAA tryouts. Tim advised that the announcement had been submitted.

The ice will be in Canning Arena for October 7th and 8th.

Mike Cochrane asked about registration requirements before AAA tryouts. Alice advised that it was necessary that players be registered before going on the ice for tryouts. Since our registration is September 16th, the same date as AAA Atom tryouts, players may register immediately folowing or during that try out. Registration is required for insurance coverage. Peter asked about the number of players rule requirement. 10 players from host ice and 6 from other places. There was a question about where the goaltender(s) had to be from. It doesn't matter if the goaltender is from the host ice or elsewhere.

Kentville is hosting AAA Pee Wee, West Hants is hosting AAA Pee Wee and AAA Bantam. Try out fees are $10 per session. Questions arose about how the funds received for our AAA Atom tryouts would be used. It was decided that the AAA team would have their own account set up with appropriate signing authorities and they would look after their own financing. They will be a self-supporting unit. Receipts will be issued for tryout fees.

Cleve's and Zellers have each volunteered to provide a set of sweaters. Paul MacKay (equipment manager) will determine which teams require sweaters.

Sports Traders in New Minas have donated a pair of 28" Heaton goalie pads rather than paying EKMHA percentage proceeds of sale of East Kings hockey paraphernalia. Mary Lou is send a "Thank You" note to Sports Traders.

Re: Checking - we are to send someone to Halifax September 30 or October 1. They will be instructed how to teach checking and return to East Kings to instruct players and coaches. Intermediate level coaching is required to take the clinic. We have only 3 intermediate level coaches. Fee is unknown. Kentville will be sending two people to take the course.

Level 1 coaching clinic will take place November 24 and 25 in Kentville. Kentville will also offer the Safety/Trainers program.

The Initiation Program will be followed for Novice this year in East Kings.

Tim Hortons sponsors East Kings, Kentville and Berwick. They will be organizing activities such as the Intermission entertainment at the Tim Hortons Challenge, etc. Tim will attend a meeting about this next week. He will likely receive three sets of sweaters as well.

Stop signs must be ordered for the new sweaters.

There was discussion regarding fair play at the AAA level.

Mike C. reported on the Early Bird Tournament. It was decided that it would not generate sufficient profit for the organization and participation required on such short notice. It was recommended that Mike plan an Early Bird Tournament for next year, perhaps a cooperative venture with West Hants and Kentville.

Reid J. reported that security checks would be conducted on all East Kings volunteers. Names will be submitted to the local R.C.M.P. First year volunteers will be targeted initially. Reid also reported on the Rick Bowness Celebrity Golf Tournament which took place in Halifax this past June. He and his son volunteered, were able to meet some hockey celebrities and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

George C. questioned the status of work that was to be done to the Canning Arena. No one knew or had seen any evidence of work in progress. Mike Roger asked for a sub committee to address the state of the rink. This committee was not established.
