Executive Meeting — August 9, 2000 7:30 pm — Port Williams School

Members present: Tim Ciappara, John Curry, Alice Ciappara, Carrie Hemmings, Mary Lou Conrad, Peter Baldwin, Mike Cochrane, George Curry, Peter Hayes, Paul MacKay, Joanne Reid, Mike Roger, Gary Shurman.

Carrie, Alice and Joanne submitted a proposed budget for the upcoming season. Rink fees were raised to $104. We can keep our registration fee the same as last season.

Registration was set for September 16th. 9 am - 1 pm at the Port Williams School. Alice sent around a sign up sheet for volunteers.

We need to know if there will be a hockey school. Peter Baldwin organized hockey school last year, but felt he would be unable to do so this year. He will approach other people previously involved to take over the task this year.

Rep. teams may be required to have three referees for games. If so, there will have to be an increase in rep fees.

Peter Baldwin asked for Executive approval to organize a AAA Atom team. This would require more ice time. Extra costs would be absorbed by the AAA players. Mike Cochrane motioned, George Curry seconded, the Peter persue the matter. All were in favour, no opposed. Marion Dowell must be informed by September 15th if the team will exist.

East Kings may have women's hockey this season.

Discussion took place as to whether East Kings should hold an Early Bird Tournament, usually around November 24th. Mike Cochrane agreed to organize with the assistance of George Curry, John Curry, Gary Sherman and Mike Roger. A date and levels included need to go to Halifax by September 1 in order to be included in a tournament book.

Tim advised that EKMHA will follow the "Initiation Program" followed by Halifax teams. This would allow for a travel team.

Checking clinics will have to be organized for Pee Wee rep players. It was suggested that all Pee Wee and 1st year Bantam players be permitted to take the course. It will be 4 hours in length sometime around October 29th, November 5 or November 12.

Coaching and Trainer clinics will be held in Kentville toward the end of September.

Sport Traders will donate goalie pads (small). They asked if the Association would try to encourage or guarantee that all teams would order Jackets through them. The Executive did not agree that we should.

Alice indicated that all coaches and volunteers were required to have a criminal record check done, mostly concerning child abuse.

Bantams can be initiated into refereeing by taking a course at no expense to them. They would referee young groups at no or little cost. If they wanted to continue the next season, the Association would pay for their course.

Peter Hayes made comments to suggest more orderly meetings be conducted to be more efficient. As well, Peter expressed an interest in our approaching the Canning Rink or Recreation Commission to make them aware of our discontent with the Canning Rink conditions. It was left that Peter could take on this organization.

Next meeting was scheduled for September 6 at 7:30 Port Williams School.
