INTERVIEW WITH BLOSSOM HOAG
Zumix Radio interviewed Blossom Hoag, Clerk of the Friends of the East Boston Greenway. The interview is available online at http://zumixradio.blogspot.com/.
EAST BOSTON GREENWAY HISTORY
The East Boston Greenway is over 10 years old now and making great progress. The complexity of ownership of land along the greenway made the development a nighmare, but despite this, the EBGW Council persevered. To date it uses the donated Conrail Rail bed in East Boston and is completed up to the new Stadium park which it will go through. The Stadium park is having various setbacks, but may open this year. Our vision for the East Boston Greenway is for it to connect to Belle Isle Marsh, Winthrop, Revere and north through coastal communities and other developed greenways.
To date it has two large murals under bridges and another is being planned for this summer. It also has a donated caboose from Conrail which we hope to start plans for its development this spring.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Friends are looking for a couple of dog walking volunteers
work together and refill doggie bag two dispensers along the
greenway. Please send us an email if you can help.

NEW MURALS
Boston
Natural Areas Network's Youth Conservation Corps and
Zumix
finished two new murals this summer on the East Boston
Greenway. The Sumner Street overpass mural highlights the East Boston's history
of transportation (left), while the Porter Street overpass mural explores
immigration and music in East Boston (right).
PHASE II PLANNING
Trust
for Public Land (TPL)
to Massport. As a result of the land transfer, the Friends will receive an
endowment to help fund strategic planning for the greenway. In addition,
the Friends are working with TPL, Massport and Boston
Natural Areas Network to place a conservation
restriction on the land. Members are encouraged to come to council meeting
to discuss how we can combine our efforts.
