Okay, I've changed my mind. Since I gave up theatre and decided to go with writing about movies, I've tried to write one review and I could already tell I was going to hate it. Now I know why I think most movie reviewers suck. They are able to muster on a weekly basis something that I saw emerging from my psyche in order to write my review and found it utterly repulsive. Arrogant superiority. (Yes, even more than I currently have)
Movie reviewers are always in danger of developing the idea that they have superior opinions. They are usually wrong, with the obvious exception of Roger Ebert. He is the best movie reviewer there is. He also co-wrote more than one Russ Meyer movie, so he's really super-cool. But other than him, the only thing movie reviewers have to offer is that they've seen the movie and you haven't, so they might be able to clue you in on something you don't want to miss. So rather than turning into some smartass, self-important movie reviewer, I'm just going to do one big-ass review. My primary goal is to clue you in on some kickass movies you might not know about, because chances are pretty good I've seen a lot more movies than you. My secondary goal is to try to look cool by recommending good movies.
But before we move on to my list of recommendations, I must practice at least some basic film critic arrogance. I must first ask if you have seen all of the following movies�
The Star Wars Trilogy (I liked Phantom Menace, but right now only the first three are required)
The Godfather Trilogy (Yes, all three. Don't be a snob)
The Matrix
Rocky
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Raiders of the Lost Ark

If you have seen all of the above movies, then we can move on to my recommendations. Again, please note that there are many movies that most people have seen and think are good � Schindler�s List, Saving Private Ryan, Citizen Kane, Jaws, E.T., Casablanca� you won�t find those on my list of recommendations. I�m trying to limit my list to movies I think most people haven�t heard of, or ones they�ve heard of (or seen on the video shelf), but for one reason or another, have given them a miss.
So below and on the following pages are 200 such movies. Next time you're bored, pick something at random and you should like it, if you have good taste like me�.
