Luckily I had a spare chunk of sheet metal that came with the bug to fix the 3"x6" hole in the trunk. I went way around it so the seam would be where I could fix it the easiest. The plan is to have full carpet in the trunk, but I still want it to be pretty close.
I just tack welded about every half inch, to keep any of the sheet metal from warping due to heat. The panel has about a half inch overlap to the body, so that it still has strength to support weight if it ever needs to.

Alright! After what seemed like too much time on this, I got it close enough to primer. There's a couple of spots that I will need some spot filler for, but for the most part, it's undetectable from the inside, almost a shame that carpet is going to cover it.
And from the underside, I got it looking just like I wanted, nice and smooth. It took all day to do it, but is definitly worth the effort. It may not look like much, but the hole that was there was made by drilling a million little holes in a circle, then pounded out with a hammer. You can see pictures of the original hole on the first two pages. Not much, but I'm glad progress is getting made.
