I also "play" for a local pub ladies football team with the shittest name in the history of man. Hindle Hornets LFC. The Hindle Hornets formed in October of the Autumn season 2002, after a bet was made in the pub that the girls could actually play better football than the blokes. A charity match was held between the ladies and the men. As it happened it prompted the girls from the pub to start a team to be managed by one of the locals and Burnley F.C. supporter Stephen Dundon, giving up his free time in between his own football playing and became our coach too. The pub itself is the Hindle Arms in Blackburn and our main sponsor, DWS Ceilings & Partitions, comes from one of the joint owners of the pub.
Theres a couple of pictures on the pictures pages from a tournament we were in last summer. The Hornets did start out as a few girls up for a bit of a kick about. We entered 4 teams into a fun five-a-side competition. As we normally play 11-a-side we had a squad big enough to do this. We were the only 4 teams in the competition and hopefully the organisers are now looking to make sure ladies can play in this tournament every year from now on, after it was a success and guest, Gordon Taylor, called us "pioneers". Which was nice.
At present we aren't in a league because there are no pub ladies football teams around here we can play against. We're working towards becoming part of an already established Ladies team though who play against the likes of Blackburn Rovers LFC, Accy Stanley LFC, Burnley LFC etc

We had a game Sunday 25th Jan 2004 on Pleasington playing field against some girls team from Accy. With only 12 of our squad turning up and no "trained" keeper, the final score was 7-2 to them, although in the second half it was only 1-1. So it's back to training tomorrow...
