Kappa Associate Chapter Tidbits
~ Kappa had the highest GPA of all sororities on campus in Spring and Fall 2006.
~ Kappa has won 5 National Awards.
~ Kappa has two alumnae that serve on Delta Xi Phi's National Board.
~ Kappa has only been on campus since 2003, yet we have already had 6 lines.
~ We are the only national multicultural sorority on campus, the only chapter in Alabama, and one of two chapters in the southeast.
~ We are the second largest multicultural sorority in the country.
~ In Summer 2006, Kappa successfully hosted the national convention for Delta Xi Phi.
~ Our chapter had the highest GPA at UA in Spring 2006 and Fall 2006.
~ Kappa has had a USA Today All-Academic Team Member.
~ Kappa has a Premier Award recipient.
~ Kappa has a Autherine Lucy Foster Award recipient.
~ Kappa member have been recognized for an extraordinary amount of community service. Some have had over 100 hours and have been recognized by the President of the United States! Several have had over 50 hours!
~ Kappa has members who have been on the President's and Dean's Lists.
~ Kappa has members in prestigious honor societies: Phi Beta Kappa (the most prestigious and the lodest honor society in the country), National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Anderson Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, Mortar Board National Honor Society, Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society, the Blount Program, Women's Honors Program, University Honors Program, Sigma Alpha Lambda National Honor Society, The Other Club, Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Order of Omega, and the Elliot Society.
~ Kappa's former president and now alumna, Miranda Warner, is Secretary on the National Executive Board of Delta Xi Phi, as well as the Southeast Reigonal Advisor. Alumna Amanda (Dawkins) Thomas is a National Alumnae Liaison.
~ A member of Kappa co-founded the first ever Multicultural Day at UA.
~ Kappa's members are involved in countless organizations throughout the campus: Intercultural Council for Crossroads Community Center, University Programs director and committee members, Freshman Forum, Student Alumni Association, Avanti Team, Student Government Association committee chairs and committee members, University Chorus, Afro American Gospel Choir, "The Crimson White" opinions columnist, Habitat for Humanity chairperson, Phi Sigma Phi.
~ Kappa has co-sponsored and worked with countless organizations at the University, including but not limited to the following: Crossroads Community Center newsletter (Kappa helps provide research information for the newsletter), Kappa Alpha Psi (co-sponsored a forum), Phi Iota Alpha (co-sponsored a coffee hour and participated in panels with them), Sigma Lambda Beta (co-sponsored social events and had a participant in Miss Royal Purple and White Pageant), social event with Alpha Delta Sigma and Alpha Delta Chi, Greek Week, co-sponsored and co-founded a forum with NAACP, co-sponsored a forum with College Democrats, and Multicultural Day.
~ One of Kappa's members is the first ever recipient of the Brandy Nicole "Nikki" Murphy Memorial Scholarship.
~ Kappa has received awards of regonition from the NAACP at the NAACP Image Awards.
~ Kappa has several alumnae members.
~ Kappa has several members who are pursuing graduate degrees and one who is pursuing a law degree.
~ Kappa has a member in the nursing program and is a member of the top nursing honor society.
