In March of 2002, former UA Dean of Students Tom Strong sent a
mass e-mail to female, undergraduate women who were interested in
joining a sorority that embraced all colors, creeds, backgrounds
and cultures. From this meeting, a group of roughly 25 women came
together to bring a diverse sisterhood to the University of Alabama.
They decided to name themselves Uniting Capstone Women (UCW).
After much research on national multicultural sororities, the women
of UCW voted on bringing a chapter of Delta Xi Phi to campus. In
January of 2003, a split occurred in UCW due to differing points
of view.
Seven women continued to pursue the pillars and values of Delta
Xi Phi while one group decided to start a greek organization of
their own. On February 22, 2003 the seven women formed the Kappa
Colony of Delta Xi Phi with a vision for change. After weeks of
hard work and dedication, the women were revealed as the Kappa Chapter
of Delta Xi Phi at 9:10 p.m. on May 3, 2003.
