PURGATORY

Catholics invented Purgatory; the Bible does not mention it.

Well, actually, it does - but not directly.  But first, there's another word that is not in the Bible either and that is the word
Trinity.  How many non-Catholics believe in the Trinity?  A lot!  They (we) believe in what the word represents being; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

It's the same thing with Purgatory.  I confess, Catholics probably DID invent the word, but not the state of Purgatory.  The Bible gives more evidence of the state of Purgatory:  According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church;
"All who die in God's grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven."

In Purgatory all remaining love of self is transformed into love of God.
Rev 21:27 states, nothing defiled can enter heaven.  We believe our prayers can help free those who are in the state of Purgatory and unable to pray for themselves.  Here are a few passages demonstrating that;

Matt. 12:32 - that some sins are forgiven in the next world:

Matt. 12:33 - And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of Man it shall be forgiven him, but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

1Cor 3:13, 15 - Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. (15) If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire.

1 Peter 3:19-20 - By which also He went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once the long suffering of God waited in the days of Noah...  (After Jesus' death, He went and preached to the spirits in prison that were sometime disobedient.  Where were they?  These spirits were - apparently for quite awhile [in the days of Noah] - in a waiting place being purified, Purgatory).

2 Macabees, 12:46 - It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from their sins.
