Subject Area:
The second column is the objectives I will be teaching the students this year, both the general description and the specifics of them.
The third column is titled "Level." This has a three-letter code attached to it.
ESS=Essential. That means that students will be formally assessed on this objective and are expected to comprehend this information.
EXP=Exposure. This is where new and familiar concepts are being shared with students. They are not formally assessed on an objective, but it is a starting point where in the upcoming year(s) they will be expected to understand these ideas.
EXT=Extended. This too introduces new concepts, but often these are areas that are just laying the foundataion for future learning and understanding. With "EXT", students learn some aspects of a concept, but more will be learned in 1st and/or 2nd grade to reach full comprehension of the subject.
I know that this can be confusing. The biggest thing is to focus on areas that have an "ESS" in the right column, as that is what the main focus of my instruction will be on, as students need to know these concepts to be prepared for 1st grade.
If you have any questions about these expectations, please let me know!
