But it is also true that different kinds of assessment have different effects on teaching. One praactical example of this truth is the widely noted observation that standardized testing is steering both curriculum choices and instructional time in American classrooms. |

| These terms are often used interchangably by the general public, but educators are usually specific in their use. Grades are a report of classroom performance. Teachers try to objective grades with evidence, however, means of determining a grade is relative to the grader. Scores generally reflect performance using a standard. Evaluation and assessment go beyond reporting and measurement to analysis of performance for diagnostic or instructional purposes. However, ANY appraisal that involves an analysis of strengths and weaknesses about a student's perfomance and learning is meaningful for promoting growth. |
