A bit about Me:

I have experience around the world in a variety of traditional and non-traditional educational settings. I'm fascinated by how people of all ages acquire and use both written and spoken language.  I love helping to facilitate learning.

I first  trained as a Speech Pathologist at Stephen F. Austin State University in 1978 and served as a public school speech therapist in Lufkin ISD. Four children and a mid-life crisis later, my husband and I trained as field linguists at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1989.  He focused on translation work while I focused on literacy. Then we packed our bags and began wandering the world.

Now I am building on my strong background in children's language development through  pursuing a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Literacy and Second Language Acquisition at the University of Texas @ Arlington.    This website contains a sampling of the work I've done for the program at UTA.

My work experience includes:

---public school speech therapy in East Texas

---developing a primer series and literacy program for pre-literate women in a third world village

---
teaching my own children using varied resources in that same village for 10 years

---teaching international middle school students in a multi-level Language Arts classroom overseas,

---serving on an interim administration team in a K-12 international school

---staff development and resource management in a K-12 international school

---writing and publishing articles about literacy and non-traditional educational settings

---consulting with families overseas about issues that impact their education.
The world is my classroom
