| 2008 Dudley Serious Releases | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| INVASION [april o8] - The year's first project was the first on which many of the songs were written on guitar. During late 07 Dud discovered that he finally started to like playing the instrument. Once again this album takes on a more political bent on many of the songs; immigration w/ "Invasion" {recorded by LAND}, "Recall This..", politics of an Election Year, "Pick An Ninny", "Say It Aint So", Bush's unjust war "What The War Has Left", gun control - "Bullet In", and four of the best tracks are about personal relationships of different types, "Sometime Is Later Than Now", "Lips 2 Hands", "Friendship Snub", "Lazy Dreamer". There are two covers; Daniel Johnston's "An Idiot's End" & Patron Saint's "The Goodbye Song. |

| The collection rounds out with a few epics; " "Don't Hog Your Journey", "Subtext & Lighting" & "Blood & Thunder". TRiPOD [june o8] - 2008's 3 Inspirational Artist Tribute Release features another three performers different as can be - Groucho Marx, actress Hedy Lammar and musican Louis Philippe. Unlike the previous collections, it includes only 4 new Dudley compositions, due to the musical wealth of of our chossen artists. The HEDY LAMARR Section features 3 of the new compostions about the very talented, one time 'Most Beautiful women on film" - "Hedy", "Ecstasy (Symphony of Love)", & "Inventor Delectable" plus a cover of Joe Cassidy/Butterfly Child's still unreleased "Bulletproof Vest" which seems perfect for this intriguing beauty. The GROUCHO MARX Section includes two songs made famou7s by Groucho from Marx Brother Movies; "Hello I Must Be Going" & "Lydia - the tattooed lady". The remaining two tracks features montages of Marx one liners put to Serious music; "Ruffus Q. Cornblow" and the 22 minute long "Hungadunga, Hungadunga, Hungadunga & McCormack" . LOUIS PHILIPPE Section - The final tribute is to one of the few living artists in this multi year series, French Pop Extraordinare Louis Philippe with covers of four of his more obscure songs; "Preachers" (06), "Our Boat Can Wait"(91), "Diamond" (86) and a new guitar mix of the previously released "Stalemate"(84). |

| COVERED UP IN TIME . . . . [july o8] - While working on the TRiPOD Tribute Project, Dudley simultaneously started culling cover tunes recorded over the years for a Album. But like every other project, Serious got rapped up with the show & ended up recording another 10 new covers, to accompany the 10 older previously recorded tunes. Of nearly 400 songs recorded over the years only some 50 were covers. Not unlike the TRIBUTE Projects the songs Dud chooses to record pay homage to the original artists. Among the Previously released classics are; Brian Wilson's "You're So Good To Me" (86) {Dud's 1st unique cover} and "I Guess I'm Dumb" (05), McCarney's "Lady Madonna" (89), The Resident's medley "Amber Easter Woman"(04), Zappa's "Jelly Roll Gumbdrop" (06) and Phil Och's "Pretty Smart on My Part" (07) plus Todd Rundgren's "The Wheel" (06 remix). Among the New 2008 Recordings are; XTC's "I'd Like That", Daneil Johnston's "Happy Times", Curt Boetcher's obscure "Misty Mirage", Nic MOMUS' "Synphonies of Beethoven", Beatles' "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away", Stew of the Negro Problem's unreleased "Movies of The Weekness", Kate Bush's "Moments of Pleasure" and the Great Lakes Myth Society {who actually provide the live music track} "Acrross The Bridge" and finally three more Brian Wilson songs for good measure; Pet Sound's original instrumental "Let's Go Away For A While" with lyrics provided by Sean McCreavy, "Solar System {Thank You}" and an interesting arrangement of 1972's "A Day In THe Life Of A Tree" lyrics put to the music of "She Rides The Surf" originally recorded by Deno, Desi & Billy. It all made for a fun side project all around! Some people like Mr Serious' treatment of other composer's work, yet some might feel he is attempting to distroy the tune, but he is just attempting to put his own mark on the material (even though that mark might be somewhat soiled). |
