The list below are some of my favorite Actors. Some of them you may recognize and some you may not know. My interest in films is mainly from the silent era up until the early sixties. Unfortunately, we have not been able to preserve our film heritage like we should due to the lack of funding. Thanks to cable channels American Movie Classics and Turner Classic Movies the public is not only able to enjoy watching great movies the stations have also worked to make the public aware of the problem about saving our films.

This morning I just happened to come across a Jerry Lewis film and it just reminded me what enjoyment I have always gotten from his films and how I don't think that he has ever been appreciated by the film industry for all that he has done. I may be wrong but I don't think he has every received any honours for his lifetime acheivements. I personally think it is about time the we as a public should begin a campaign to show our appreciation to him for the wonderful films that he has given us. Wouldn't it be a shame if the industry and the public waited until it was to late for Mr. Lewis to enjoy it. The film that I caught this morning was "Rock-a-Bye Baby" (1958). Jerry plays Clayton Pool a young man that is in love with a hometown girl who has gone off and become a hollowywood star who is played by the beautiful Marilyn Maxwell. Marilyn secretly has triplets and ask Clayton to care for the babies. That's where the laughs just begin. This is a very well done film and I suggest that you take the time to watch it. It will make you smile. Jerry is at his peak in this one.

    OTHER CAST MEMBERS

    Connie Stevens plays Sandra Naples
    Ida Moore plays Miss Bessie
    Reginald Gardiner plays Harold Hermann
Salvatore Baccaloni plays Gigi Naples (the father)
Gary Lewis plays young Clayton Pool

    Born-February 24, 1914
    Died-October 03, 1965 {malignant brain tumor}

I really enjoy watching Zachary Scotts films. The following are some of the films I have seen that he was in.

    1. Hollywood Canteen (1944)-He appeared as himself. This film had an all star cast saluting the Hollywood Canteen. Soldiers on leave could go there to be entertained by Hollywood stars.

    2. Mildred Pierce (1945)-In this film he plays the character Monte Beragon a ex-rich playboy that marries Joan Crawford. A man only out to marry her for her money. He gets caught up in a love triangle with Mildred's daughter Veda. I love this film.

    3. Cass Timberlane (1947)-He plays Bradd Criley the love interest to Lana Turner. Lana is married to a judge played by Spencer Tracy. Not a great film but still worth a watch.

    4. Flamingo Road (1949)-He plays Fielding Carlisle the local sheriff. Once again he is teamed up with Joan Crawford. She plays the girl from the wrong side of the tracks who marries well. Fielding Carlisle is the man who befriends her.

While I have seen several more of his films these four are my favorites. So if you happen to catch these on the tele then give them a try I think you will enjoy them as much as I do.

    GEORGE BRENT

    Born-March 15, 1904
    Died-May 26, 1979

I've always thought that George Brent has been under rated by film historians. He role he took on he could make you believe that he was that character and he could always hold his own with whatever major star he was acting with. For example, look at the film "Dark Victory" with Bette Davis. Ms. Davis could steal the scene from most other actors but not with George Brent. I just love this film. They had such good chemistry together. Bette plays Judith Traherne a spoiled rich girl who has a terminal brain tumor. George plays Dr. Frederick 'Fred' Steele her doctor. They fall in love and marry. This film is a three hankie film.....unless you have no heart it will make you boo...hooo.

The following are a list of George Brent's films that I have seen and that I would recommend that you take the time and watch.

    1. 42nd Stree (1933)
    2. Front Page Woman (1935)

I am a big fan of reading biographies on the actors and actresses and directors etc. from the classic movie era. From the Silents up til the late 1950's. I came across a good book on the actor Peter Lorre. I've always enjoyed the films that he did. A very underated actor in my opinion. The name of the book is called "The Lost One A Life of Peter Lorre" written by Stephen D. Youngkin. I highly recommend this book.

    ROBERT MITCHUM

    Born-August 06, 1917
    Died-July 01, 1997

Next to James Cagney I think that Robert Mitchum is my next favorite actor. I love all of his movies even the ones that don't have the best storylines.
