Cagney plays Tom Powers a young hood making his way up in the underworld. The film was released in 1931. It is in this film that the famous grapefruit scene occured. He shoves a grapefruit in Mae Clarks face. Also, Jean Harlow plays his love interest. Jean at her best. This film set the standards for future gangster films. It may be a little dated by todays standards but it is still a great film that will hold your attention and it shows Cagney at his best.

Today I saw the film "Witness for the Prosecution" (1957) starring Tyrone Power and Charles Laughton. Charles Laughton plays his barrister. I can't tell you to much witout spoiling the plot. If you haven't seen this film then it is a must see; and if you have seen it then it is worth watching over and over again. The film was directed by Billy Wilder

This is a must film to add to my silent library if they will ever put it on DVD. I really enjoyed this movie and it was the first time I had every seen anything with Alla Nazimova and she was wonderful as Marguerite. Much better than Garbo any day. The story was done by June Mathis a friend of Valentino's.

An Interesting little piece of trivia Valentino's future wife Natacha Rambova worked on Costume design even though she received no screen credit. Also, The original play opened in Paris in 1852. The first Broadway production of the play opened on 9 December 1853. There have been 15 Broadway revivals of the popular play, the last in 1935. Also, I just bought the special DVD edition of The Sheik and on the DVD you also get the film Sond of The Sheik and you get some added clips of his death and a beauty contest he did and one other short with him in it. If you are a silent movie buff as I am then I can highly recommend this one to you and I got it for only $22.00 at Amazon.com. I have to say if you are looking for old films then Amazon is the place to go.

This is a little off topic because most of my classic films site is just about the films but I am in the middle of reading a great book about to great comedians Laurel and Hardy. The title of the book is "STAN AND OLLIE THE ROOTS OF COMEDY THE DOUBLE LIFE OF LAUREL AND HARDY"; written by Simon Louvish. I have to tell you if you are a Laurel and Hardy fan you will want to add this to your collection this is a must have and a must read. Even if you aren't a big fan you will still enjoy this if you want to learn about the early movie industry. Laurel and Hardy were there in the beginning. This has been a great read. It is a shame more of there silent films haven't been restored. So far I have learned alot of things I didn't know about these great comedians.

I am trying to get more time to work on my site. Thanks for stopping by.

This month Turner Classic Movies are doing a salute to Errol Flynn. If you haven't watched his films then this is the perfect time to really see what a good actor he was. Turner has picked some of his best films for us to watch. Some I haven't seen for a long time. He is one of my favorite classic actors. I don't think he has ever been given enough credit for how talented he really was. I enjoyed the documentary that Turner did on his life and to see that there are others who are finally seeing what a very talented man he was.

I can highly recommend that if you want to add to your classic movie collection then you should buy "The Adventures of Robin Hood" collectors edition. It has a very good documentary with it.

I will try shortly to add some pictures of Errol Flynn.

I received my Errol Flynn Collection Series yesterday. You not only get 5 of his best films but you also get the documentary that Turner Classic Movies did on him. It's the same on as the one they have been showing all month on the cable channel.

    1. Captain Blood
    2. Sea Hawk
    3. Dodge City
    4. Elizabeth and Essex
    5. They Died With There Boots On
    6. Errol Flynn *The Documentary*

Even if you are not a big fan of Errol Flynn these are definately films that you would want to add to your collection. All of these films are what I call classic films.
