| What to Buy and Where to Shop in China??? It's a good idea to plan what you want to buy in China. Some parents buy a gift for each of their child's birthdays up to age 18. Clothes, squeaky shoes, leather shoes, strollers -- all are unbelievably cheap in China. Favorite mementoes include: paintings, granite etchings, scrolls, pearls, jade, cloisonne, porcelain, carvings, lacquerware, carved chops, etc. Travel light going, and buy a huge suitcase or duffel bag for under $20 to bring back full of your souvenirs and gifts. Do keep in mind shipping weights and customs fees, which can be cost-prohibitive if you're looking at rugs, furniture, or expensive jewelry and antiques.
