I have to start collecting these...this is hot, hot action...
Oh what a weekend....
I've had stranger weekends, but do not remember when, let me tell you that. It started on Friday night. I went with J to dinner, and then to his place...I wanted to spend the night there because M was throwing a party at our place and I wanted to get some R&R like you wouldn't believe. Especially since I knew that M's party was Saturday and that we'd all be staying up way too late for our own good.
Saturday, J and I went to the Museum of Science and Industry. They had a new exhibit on the www and it was really entertaining. I got my membership card replaced (I have got to use that before it expires in June!) and think that the sleepover on April 20th has the potential to be a very good time!
I was given a beautiful print of the Main Gate of the Fairy Castle which is a permanant exhibit at the Museum, and something that I find most people want to visit every time they are there.
Then I went to my great-grandmother's house, since I do not visit as often as I should (not by a long shot) and waited for Kristi to finish up at her Aunt's birthday party. She had to make a detour to the Olive garden to hang out with N and his gf, another couple, and S. She got to my house at ten, and we'd already told the writer D that we would pick him up at 10ish. Then, we found that my cell phone refused outright to call through to his cellular phone. This is a bad thing. Luckily, he felt comfortable enough with us that he called me, and I relayed our estimated time of arrival, current location, and repeated apologies that we were going to be late.
Long story short we showed up at his front door at 11:15pm, and to M's party at 11:45pm (with a slight detour to Evanston, due to the fact that our driver got a wee bit turned around) M was very happy to see us, as were a lot of the guests that were already there.
We stayed at M's until about 5am, then went to a really swank diner in Boystown called Nookies, where they truly have the best omlette I have ever eaten in my life. Yummy.
Then we took D back to where he was staying and K drove home (where my car was) I finally got back home somewhere around 7am, and promptly fell into bed, with a sense of relief I haven't felt in a while.
The phone rings at about 11am, much to my disgruntled surprise, and I answer (probably sounding like death warmed over) It's D - and he wants to take me to lunch. The back of my brain is processing the fact that I did know about this the night before, but I would not have remembered. I was very tired when we dropped him off the night/morning before. I said I would love to go, and proceeded to attempt to make myself look at least vaguely like a human before running out the door and praying for decent traffic.
Traffic...of course....sucked.
I was fifteen minutes late to pick him up, and felt awful about it. I didn't apologize, because the night before, I apologized so many times for being later than we'd anticipated I figured apologizing for the same thing less than a day later would just be a bit gauche.
D suggested we go to a place called the Fireside Grill, and it was really nice. I had a delightful time, and he was really quite a gentleman. We then went to check out a cemetary entrance that was shaped like a castle! It was the most interesting thing I have ever seen that was cemetary related. I found out later that is a pretty common thing in that area. Odd...
We then decided we were going to attempt to go to the Clark & Belmont area of chicago Look Here...we did find the area, but unfortunately parking was more of a nightmare on a Sunday afternoon than I thought it would be and we couldn't park! There were so many people walking the streets. It was a pretty good people watching experience tho. We stopped for a chocolate shake on the way back, and I dropped him off at his place so he could attend dinner with friends that was scheduled that evening.
I liked him, I really liked him.
Then again, I'm a sucker for eccentrics. I wonder why *laughing*
Sunday was a peaceful evening visiting R in the hospital. Her mother was there, and for the first time since I've known R, I had a conversation with her. Since '89...isn't that strange? The really weird part is that she is a really nice person. Very perceptive and interesting. I'm really glad I got a chance to talk to her.
Tonight is a birthday party for MM (R's Daughter) at the hospital lounge this evening..then when R is out of the Hospital MM will have one of her huge normal b-day parties.
