So many parties, so little time....

Last night after work I went to dinner with my friend L, who works at my company. We had what we always have, grilled cheese sandwiches. Yummy! Joyously, L actually owed me a little money from a while back, so she paid! (I think I've mentioned my current financial state being no less than grim.) I really enjoy talking to L, she is a great conversationalist, and I consider her a friend. It's nice to have friends.

I drove from the diner directly to the hospital where R was staying. I had picked up the cutest little book for MM and put it in a little animal covered gift bag. R looked good and was anxiously awaiting her daughter's party.

We talked of many things - for example, there is a website that uses your computer to Fight Cancer while you aren't using it! It's a really great program for a cause that hits a little more than close to home. I recommend you go there and look at the fabulous things they're doing to look for a cure!

MM loved all of her presents, and was getting pretty tuckered by the time the party ended at about nine at night. She really seemed quite pleased with the herds and piles of gifts she received, and I was particularly happy when I realized she really did like the present I bought for her. I picked up a Maisy the Mouse book for her. It's a fashion book and you can show Maisy in different outfits. The back page of the book is Maisy in nothing but frilly blue underwear. That bothers me, yet I cannot figure out why.

It's not like half naked adolescent mice are sexy...or projecting that image.
Maybe I'm just becoming a prude in my old age.

At lunch I began a biography of Simone de Beauvoir (boovwah) who happens to be an absolute favorite of my Great Grandmother's. I admit, sadly, I have never read anything by "Dear Simone" so to atone for my aggregious biblio-sins I am starting with this biography...an absolute monstrosity at 618 pages, with a "notes" section that then goes on to page 680, followed by a page of photo credits and then an astounding index that finally ends at page 718. I repeatedly thank the stars above that the copy I was given by greatgrandmother was a paperback. It is large, the type is small, and I do not see how an 87 year old woman could read the whole thing. She usually sticks to the "Large Print" section in the library. Ah well, no matter...I am assured it is good, and who knows, maybe someday I'll find the information useful in some way.

Well, back to work, and this evening I may even score dinner and a movie. Life is so very glamorous.

Thanks again for calling, I really didn't think you would ;-)
