| The house with its extra layer of foam insulation. The Nana-wall doors open completely if needed. The basic steel structure is called a Special Moment Resisting Frame or SMRF. Great rigidity and lots of architectural freedom. The central beam line is 18' tall, made from 1" thick steel web and flanges. The house has a total weight of approximately 600,000 lbs including 113 cubic yards of concrete and nearly 100 tons of steel. Linda and I did all the electrical and framing. We contracted out the stucco, plain concrete, Structural and insulation. We installed the well, waterlines, and radiant floor heating system, primary electrical service and all doors, including the nanawall door system. The front door took 6 months. |
