Impressions (for Jackson)Dads old flannel shirt over grey leggings No makeup, no glasses, messy hair Curled up under the covers watching Cheers in the dark. Mom said first impressions are never easy. But you went along with it. Even though I squinted at you like a nearsighted owl caught in daylight. Thank you for not laughing. Or for being out of earshot if you did. For a while I thought I was doomed to be always in my pjs--ready for bed whenever you stopped by. I wanted you to see me dressed and looking like my normal self. Our friendship started with confusion. The BSU dance, my ignoring your feelings. The missed poetry reading, the date auction. Email has taken the place of real talk. Im suprised you stuck around. But look what wed have missed: The pool game when I hit the wrong color and was still excited I got one in! The McDonalds stop turned Wal-mart run. You even bought me a flower. Dont forget the four of us exploring the indoor track at midnight and testing the softness of all the mats. Hey, it wasnt exactly breaking and entering. The door was broken before we got there. I know I havent been the nicest or the most tactful person in the world. Im not going to make excuses. But while were not boyfriend/girlfriend material, I hope we can stay friend/friend. |
