4/25/06 Coaches Vs. Cancer All Star Game

by Brian Crownover

Suburban Team

Anthony Minor Plymouth Whitemarsh (6-4 JR)
Anthony had an impressive game and took home the MVP award.  Hes very active around the basket and that is where the majority of his points came from.  He has long arms and is a good athlete.  He didnt show any outside game.  Anthony is going to need to be more perimeter oriented to play at the division one level.

Todd O Brien Garden Spot (6-9 210 JR)
Todd is a face up big man who prefers to shoot the jumper rather than bang down in the post.  He showed good ball handling skills (for a PF/C) to go along with a good mid range jump shot.  He needs to develop more inside and add some weight to frame.  He already has the ball skills to be a PF at the mid to high major level.  He just needs to add the interior game.

Lavoy Allen Pennsbury (6-8 210 JR)
Lavoy was quiet on the offensive end in this game, but had another really good game defensively.  He again blocked several shots in this contest.  He doesnt look like hed be a good shot blocker when you see him move on the court, but he seems to have good timing.

Edwin Santiago Sanford Prep (DE) (6-2 JR)
Santiago is a quick guard with good ball handling skills.  Hes a solid athlete, but not dynamic.  He set up his teammates well.  He didnt show much of an outside game and I didnt realize how many shots he actually missed inside until I saw the boxscore.  Despite that he looked like a solid mid major PG, especially with his height.

Inter AC/Friends/Private

Khalif Foster Academy of the New Church (6-3 JR)
I have seen Khalif play several times and he continues to play solid, but seems to get lost in the shuffle.  He does have a big frame and as I noticed today, really wide shoulders.  He reminds me of a running back in that aspect.  He doesnt make many explosive or dynamic plays so you tend not to notice him.  He just quietly produces in many aspects of the game.

Michael Eric Church Farm (6-10 JR)
Michaels raw skills were quite impressive once again.  I was surprised the first time that I saw him that he didnt block any shots, but he came up with one in this game.  He is an explosive athlete who is still developing a feel for the game.  Michael is an excellent rebounder, but needs to improve significantly on the offensive end.  He had a thunderous dunk in this contest.  He seemed to struggle with catching passing.  He showed good, strong hands on a couple rebounds, so fumbling the ball was probably due more to a lack of concentration.  He might have more upside than anyone in the Philadelphia area right now and itll be interesting to follow his progression.

Catholic League

Rick Jackson Neumann (6-8 220 JR)
As expected, Rick had a dominating performance inside as he won the MVP trophy.  He was very efficient inside, particularly early in this contest.  He had some words with the Morris twins and then challenged Marcus one on one.  Unfortunately for Rick, Marcus was too quick and blew right by him.

Khalil Mumford
 Cardinal Dougherty (5-11 JR)
Khalil had another good game from the perimeter.  He is such an ideal high school SG shooting guard.  Its just unfortunate that hed be an undersized at that position at the college level.

Roberto Towsend
 Cardinal Dougherty (6-2 JR)
Roberto electrified the crowd with several spectacular dunks.  Unfortunately, this was the first time I saw him do anything.  Im not sure he has any game beyond dunking.  Hes almost as good of a leaper as anyone Ive seen in this area.  Roberto really needs to develop the rest of his game though.  He has great natural ability that cant be taught, but someone needs to really work with him on becoming a basketball player.

Chris Edwards
 North Catholic (6-6 JR)
Chris had a decent game.  Hes a solid interior player who is developing his perimeter skills.  He knocked down a deep three, but then followed that up with several missed three pointers.  He needs to be more consistent in that area.  Hes another prospect that could be very good by the end of next year.

Public League

Malcolm Eleby Franklin Learning Center (6-2 JR)
Malcolm is a long and lean point guard.  Hes quick, but not explosive.  He did a good job of penetrating and passing to open teammates.  He also is excellent at using his long arms to adjust around the basket and finish.  He didnt attempt many outside shots, preferring instead to drive.  Malcolm also played solid defense for the Public League team.  With his size and ability, he looks like a mid to high major prospect.
