died after having heart valve replacement surgery. She was 82. Alice had gotten Callie from a shelter about six years ago and the family asked us to take care of her.
The year started with our nephew Daniel's birthday party. He was 4 on December 29th, and we celebrated in January with a cake that looked like Lightning McQueen of the Cars movie. Daniel chose to eat the "engine" piece.
The Robert Altman Film Festival was in April at the Screenland Theater, and we saw the movies Kansas City and his last movie, Prairie Home Companion.

We saw Romeo & Juliet twice this year (both outdoors) - at Shakespeare in the Park and when our nephew Brandon's theater group did the play. He played several smaller roles in the play. We also enjoyed watching our niece Lauren play basketball and Brandon debate.
In June, we went to Salina, Kansas for four days for the Smoky Hill River Festival. This festival has art and music throughout the park, fine art and crafts booths, food, etc. We love to go and try to every 3 years.
There were also a lot of family events and get-togethers this year. We went to Waterville, Kansas several times - to visit, to attend the Tryon reunion, to see our niece Nicole's church presentation of her missionary trip to Turkey, and for Alice's memorial service. The Barr family also had a couple of nice get-togethers this year.
Our niece Sarah turned 1 this year, and she had a butterfly cake and lots of fun presents at her party. Diane's mom turned 65 and a group of family and friends celebrated at Manny's Mexican restaurant. Grandma Rose had a pizza party for all the grandkids and great-grandkids. Then, when Mark and his family came in town in August, the family got together at Grandma's for a Mexican Fiesta.

Throughout the year, we got some new stuff for the house. We got a dishwasher in March (the old one wasn't working for a while). We got a new stove when the oven on the old one stopped working, and also a new furnace/AC after the furnace did not pass inspection. We were going to have the house painted this summer, but found termites in the garage, so we spent the money on the termite treatment instead.
