more fun events
We went to several festivals (Lenexa International Fest, Taste of Lenexa, Lenexa BBQ Battle, KC Ethnic Festival, Lenexa Spinach Festival, Art Westport, Overland Park Fall Festival),
local events (the play Fiddler on the Roof, Shakespeare in the Park - Romeo and Juliet, and
Firewater at the Plaza's Brush Creek),
and concerts (
Joe Bonamassa and Trans-Siberian Orchestra).
We also attended several Royals games, a
KC T-Bones game, and a Chiefs game for free when Gregg got tickets from work.  Diane went to Ballet in the Park, an American Royal horse show, and the Prairie Home Companion show at Starlight Theater.

more info on Diane's work this year
Diane is still working part-time in Activities at the Indian Meadows nursing home.  At the beginning of the year, she worked 3 days/week (20 hours).  From March through August, they cut her hours back, having her work Saturdays and special events.  On August 31st, the Activities Director quit, leaving two in the dept (her co-worker took the Act Director job), and she is now working 4 days/week (25-30 hours), with two people doing the work of three.  On the plus side, the activities and entertainment are fun, and she enjoys visiting with the residents.

Also this year, Diane lost 2 friends her age, 42, who were disabled and living at the nursing home.  They will be missed.
more bad luck and health issues
And that's not all.  There was more bad luck.  Gregg had two hard drives fail (an external music drive and laptop), his PDA had problems (work replaced the PDA), and his car stereo was stolen at work.  Gregg also developed a cracked tooth and frozen shoulder.  The tooth required a root canal, which they initially did on the wrong tooth, requiring another root canal to fix the problem.. He is doing physical therapy for his frozen shoulder and getting back his mobility.

Is it appropriate this year that we are fans of the Royals, Chiefs, Chicago Cubs, and Dale Earnhardt Jr?  None of them are having much luck this year.
