"What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace."
~ Agnes M. Pahro
2008 has been an interesting year.  We have had our dog Callie for one year.  She turned 11 on October 1st (the day that Aunt Alice adopted her from the shelter became her birthday).  We try to keep her active with walks and toys.  She is very playful at times and likes to chase the squirrels, rabbits and chipmunk in our yard.  In April, we went to a weekly dog training class.  It was as much about teaching us how to be good owners and getting her to do what we want, as about teaching her commands.  We recently started giving her pumpkin, which the vet recommended for more fiber.

We miss
Aunt Alice, who died a year ago (Nov 15).  We will really miss her on holidays and at family reunions.
This year we did the usual things - some movies and Royals games, Shakespeare in the Park (Othello), Ethnic Fest, an art fair (Plaza), and a concert (Robert Plant and Alison Krause, outdoors at Starlight Theater).  We watched Lauren play basketball and Brandon sing and dance in a play (My Fair Lady) and also perform in an Acting Recital.

We also toured the
Whiteman AFB near Sedalia, MO in July - we saw the launch control center (decommissioned) for minutemen missiles and one of the B2 Stealth Bombers, The Spirit of Missouri, which was on display and heavily guarded.  The tour was fascinating and we learned a lot of things.
There were several big events that we celebrated with our families.  We celebrated Daniel's 5th birthday in January, Sarah's 2nd birthday in April, Joe becoming an Eagle Scout, as well as weddings and anniversaries.  Nicole and Ben got married on May 10th in Nebraska (after Nicole graduated from college),.  Chris and Dusty married on July 11 in a park in Olathe, KS.  Joan and Richard's boys and families had a nice 40th anniversary party for them in September.  Also, Daniel started morning Kindergarten.

Throughout the year, many relatives came to KC for a visit -  Tiffany, Rita, Tim, Lillian and Laurie, Mark and Joe - and it was really nice to be able to see all of them -             from Nashville, Texas, New Mexico, Illinois, and Puerto Rico.
For our vacation, we went to Omaha, Nebraska in August.  We spent a day at the Omaha Zoo.  We also went to the Botanical Garden, the Old Market, an Omaha Royals game, and Rick's Boatyard Caf (a seafood restaurant) for our 15th anniversary dinner.
We did the Czech tour this time - the
Bohemian Caf, Czech Museum, and the
Red Square shop in the Old Market with Czech postcards, books, ornaments, etc.
We stayed busy with work this year.  In July, Gregg went to a 2-day conference in Chicago.  At Indian Meadows Nursing Center, there were only 2 in the Activities Dept, with Diane working about 30 hours/week.  In  July, the Activity Director (Anna) went to Mexico with her family for 3 weeks to go through the process of getting her son-in-law legal in the U.S.  During that time, Diane ran the Activities Dept herself, working Full-time.  Then in August, the previous Act. Dir (who left last Aug), came back as the new Act Dir, and there were 3 of us in the dept once again (Anna went back to being an Asst, our hours were cut and the workload increased, which led to Anna quitting in November).
Diane's hours were increased until a new assistant is hired.
So, with everything that has been happening at work, thank God for Callie.  Callie definitely keeps things interesting with her antics.  She is very social and loving and a good companion.

May your holidays be filled with the joy of family and friends and pets, and may the upcoming year bring you health, prosperity and peace.
