HARRY POTTER DAY
July 20, 2000

John R. Kauffman, Jr. Public Library
Sunbury, Pennsylvania

It's Harry Potter Day at the library! Emrys wears his wizard T-shirt and Quidditch badge.

Emrys reaches into the Sorting Hat to pull out his House assignment.

Having been sorted into Gryffindor, Emrys signs his name to the list.

Helpers

This mom had a really clever and simple costume! She claimed to be the "Fat Lady in Pink."

This librarian's cloak is made of a wonderful fabric that has Latin incantations printed all over it!

Librarian Hope Kopf, the organizer.

Hope asked Anne to write up a Harry Potter logic puzzle for this event, something suitable for children from 2nd to 10th grade. She put a fairly simple one together that the kids seemed to enjoy; here it is!

The experience inspired Anne to write an op-ed piece about the Harry Potter books, which was picked up by Scripps Howard; it can be read here.
