Aims and Objectives

The Society's name describes a major part of its purpose More formally, the aims and objectives of the Society are:

  • To encourage the growing and use of Australian native plants in home gardens and public places.
  • To improve Australian native plants as garden subjects.
  • To foster and promote the study, cultivation and appreciation of Australian native plants.
  • To pass on the accumulated general knowledge of the membership as widely as possible.
  • To protect Australian native plants in their natural habitats and to encourage the cultivation of endangered species in botanical gardens and other reserves.
  • To interest the nursery industry in propagating and supplying Australian native plants to the public.

Not formally stated (but an important objective none the less), is for members to enjoy themselves! Growing plants is supposed to be fun!

I have been a member of SGAP for many years and I am involved with the running of the Tamworth Group ...We are only a small group but we enjoy ourselves and have some very keen members
