DOVE is a registered non-government and non-profit development organization, which has strong conviction that sustainability of development, can be ensured only through community participation. It promotes sustainable social and economic development by working with local communities through development programs.
GREEN FAISALABAD
The objective of the project is to support clean and healthy environment in the city. The main emphasis of the project is on tree plantation and land scaping. The street and road plantation is generally for demonstration purposes so that the awareness is created among the public regarding the role of plantation in fighting against pollution. The main plantation is done in schools, jails and premises of organizations. The practice ensures the protection and maintenance of plants. The roadside plants are covered with plant-guard for protection. The project has planted more than twenty thousand plants in the city with more than seventy per cent survival rates. The documentary on Faisalabad has been developed to use as a tool for awareness.
The concerned organization, forest department, community and DOVE are the executors of the project. All the partners donate funds and share expertise to run the project. The project also provides consultancy to the public and organization in tree plantation and land scaping.
COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS PROGRAM
The board of directors of the project represents cross section of the community and organizations. The project has produced printed and other material for the promotion of healthy environment. The seminars, workshops, and competition among school children are conducted.
The project has established pollution fighter clubs in the schools. The theme song for pollutions fighter clubs has been developed. The pollution fighter clubs have the administrative structure and set procedure to run the activities. The representative of DOVE and nominated teacher of the school proved guidance to run the affairs of the club. The club members donate and collect funds to run the activities of the club. The plantation by the Green Faisalabad project is handled by pollution fighter clubs in the schools.
The club have booklets, which spell out the roles of club members, activities and other matters. The theme song and the documentaries have been produced for the clubs.
GREEN GOLD
It is solid waste management project, which is being run by the participation of the community. Initially the project was started in Allama Iqbal Colony but now it has been extended to Sheereen Colony Faisalabad. The project runs awareness campaigns in collaboration with union council nazim and councilors. The household data is collected and maintained for the future planning. The waste collectors collect the solid waste. The household, which is separated into different categories for further processing and sale out. The organic matter is converted into compost and other items and collection of service charges will support the project when the donor withdraws.
EMPLOYABILITY PROJECT
This is USAID funded project, with provides the workforce to meet the needs of the industry and provides the employment opportunities for the youth with special emphasis on women. This project is significantly increasing the employability in youth through developing their skills as demanded by the employers in response to the challenge of unemployment in youth in this country.
This project carries out its activities with community participation. The community activists, nazims, councilors and heads of social institutions identify the unemployed graduates in their community. These beneficiaries are being delivered the training to make them capable for doing jobs in a competitive environment as a team.
SCHOOL LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The project is sponsored by Punjab Education Foundation (PEF). DOVE is working in collaboration with ASK Development, Islamabad. The objective of this project is to orient and train private school management to improve the education standard.
In this regard a large number of trainings have been organized across the provinces for principles, teachers and managers.
