Who We Are

We are the Borg.  Lower your shields and surrender you ships.  Your culture...*cough*....oops...um...well...uh.  Glad I got that out of my system.   We are a married couple living in Central Virginia.  We are currently attending Seminary at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.

How we met

Let me see.  My wife has photographic proof that we met at a Liberty football game while friends of mine were trying to pick up women.  Neither one of us remembers the encounter, but the camera never lies, right.

How we became more than images on a photograph is complicated, but I will try to explain.  I am often asked how we got together by single guys, which normally is attached to "I wish I could do the same".  (Yes, single guys, the good The Wandering Bard also known as Jonones anyways, do want to be tied to one woman.)  The only problem is that we did nothing really conventional.  After our first year in college, we went to our respective sides of the country to spend our summers.  I was a janitor/youth intern and she was a nurse at a camp.  We corresponded by mail a couple of times, but nothing serious.  After we returned our friends love lives were a mess, so in a naive Christian way we set out to do something about it.  Not normally a team effort, but I messed around with the guy's lives and she with the girls.  Now here is where it gets confusing, she tells me that she was attracted to me, but thought I was the most annoying jerk she'd met in a while.  I guess that makes sense to the ladies.  One day in the prayer chapel, she was trying to blow me off and I was kind and sweet to her.  This is when she realized that I was a nice guy that she could maybe marry.

Now I was slower or faster, I don't know.  I wanted to ask her out the moment I came back to college.  She was everything I wanted in a woman:  Attractive, loves God, loves people, intelligent, and serves in ministry.  But over the summer we had become good friends, so there wasThe Hottie also know as Becca something to risk other than my ego.  Anyways with our tampering with our friends lives we started getting closer relationally.  Neither one of us had really ever dated before so we did know what to do.  I mean there is not a crab singing in the background in real life, man!  Where are Timon and Pumba when you need them?  Then, I realize that I am Southern Baptist, why do I need them?

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Psalms 84:10

The night was October 5, 2000.  Anyway, I went that night and prayed for an hour before to make sure that I was in God's will before talking to her. We walked and I laid out my heart to her and told her how I really felt.  Gentlemen, do you know what she told me.  "You need to put it in writing."  Well, to make a long story short I did and she did and we dated for three and one half years.  Fortunately, she had not had enough, so on June 14, 2003 two became one.

To this day God teaches me more through marriage than I have ever learned anywhere else.  Currently, we are youth workers with the greatest youth group east of Lynchburg, Calvary Baptist Church in Concord, VA.
