The Disease is diagnosed by the presence of dry eyes or mouth often detected by an ophthalmologist by measuring the tear production and careful examination of the eye cornea
Biopsy of the inner lip can show inflammation damaging the salivery glands
In secondary Sjogrens Syndrome it often apears after the diagnosis of another Auto immune disease ,showing itself in dry eyes or mouth
Sometimes certain medications can mimic the same symptoms and it should be checked that these are not responsible for the discomfort first. |
