Don Perry was born in Oklahoma but currently lives in Miami, Florida.  When I am not reading about Native American History I enjoy writing movie spoilers, hiking on nature trails and drinking orange juice.  Many thanks to Gayle who assisted with research and showed her support of my interest in Native American Monuments by creating a beautiful hand made quilt inspired by the geometry of the Newark Earthworks.
She also introduced me to the Rock Eagle Monument in Eatonton, Georgia which I consider worthy of an honorable mention.  On top of an earth mound where the cremated remains of a human burial were discovered, lie thousands of milky quartz rocks in the shape of a bird.  The wing span is 102 feet, from head to tail it is
120 feet.  In the same county, Putnam, can be found the Rock Eagle's sister, the similar but slightly different Rock Hawk Mound

Probably built 2,000 years ago, I believe they are a result of Hopewell influence.

My favorite explanation?
An artistic embellishment of a burial mound.
The author enjoys a swim while wearing white swim trunks.

People always ask me about that.
