1. Print the Lectures and the Answer Keys linked below to bring to class, and read the lectures completely before coming to class. It is important for your success in this course that you come to class prepared having read the lectures several times before we discuss the material in class.

2. Read Chapter 2 (Basic Descriptive Statistics) in your textbook. Do the following problems at the end of the chapter: 2.2 (all parts), 2.4, and 2.11. The answers are in the file linked below:

You will not be turning in this assignment, but the problems will be on the multiple choice portion of the exam.
3. Using the SPSS program (SPSS disk that came with your book) and your data disk (data disk that came with your book), do the SPSS Demonstration 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 at the end of the chapter. You will need to move all the relevant tables and charts to a Word file by doing a copy and paste. After each table, write out the statistical interpretation of each table or chart. Send that as an attached file to [email protected]. This assignment will be graded. If you did not do all the exercises in Appendix F, you will likely have problems beginning the SPSS demonstrations. Make sure you complete Appendix F in the back of your book before you begin this assignment. You will not be doing the exercises at the end of any of the Demonstrations in your book.
Pay particular attention to interpreting the computer output. On the exams, you will be given computer output and will be asked to interpret the statistics for the general public.
3. Read Chapter 3 (Measures of Central Tendency) in your textbook. Do SPSS Demonstration 3.1 and 3.2 at the end of the chapter. Paste the relevant tables and charts into a Word file, do the interpretations for the public, and send this as an attachment to [email protected].
