Dolphins are one of the worlds most loved animals. For years, scientists have done research and studies to lean more about these wonderful creatures. Please take a look around this web site and hopefully soon you will know more about Dolphins than before.

Did you know a group of dolphins is called a pod..... and dolphins are mammals, not fish!

WHAT IS A DOLPHIN?

Dolphins are marine animals. They live in oceans around the world and come from the family, CETACEA (sey-tay-sha) .  They are mammals because they have lungs not gills, they have skin not scales, they give live birth and don't lay eggs and nurse their babies (calves) on milk.

Below is the biological classification for the common dolphin:

Phylum: Cordata (vertebrates)
Class: Mammalia
Order: Cetacea
Sub-order: Odontoceti
Family: Delphinidae
Genus: Delphinus
Species: delphis

Every dolphin has it's own song, or whistle. You can hear a dolphin by clicking below.
