WHAT IS A DOLPHIN? Dolphins are marine animals. They live in oceans around the world and come from the family, CETACEA (sey-tay-sha) . They are mammals because they have lungs not gills, they have skin not scales, they give live birth and don't lay eggs and nurse their babies (calves) on milk.
