Why Do I Need To Fill Out An Application?

Don't flip out! Though this application asks a lot about your past experiences, they have little effect on whether you get a part or not. In fact, if you know someone who personally knows me or you know me, you can skip filling out this application entirely. I know, it used to be mandatory, but... it wasn't really mandatory... This application is mostly for people I don't know at all. Its main purpose is to give me some information about you, what instructions I may need to post later (e.g. stop frame animation), the age groups Im working with, and information Ill need at the completion of this project for the ending credits. The only time parts will be chosen based on your past experiences is when and if we have a tie on a part. Yes, you can sign up for a part that someone else has already tried out for except if it is "set" (we've started filming them already).

There are some parts of this application that might look very random or weird to you. One example may be the note underneath E-mail in the General Information section. If you check this I will post your e-mail on the contact page so other members may e-mail you to ask for information or pictures of your location, actors, etc.

Dont think that you cant sign up for a part in the crew because youve never been a director, stop frame animator, cameraman/woman, etc. and have no idea what to do. A big goal of the Pocky Project is to teach you how to do these jobs (Note: How to do these jobs on a small budget in an unprofessional setting ^_^). If youre interested, sign up! See the bottom of the page for the Position Descriptions, if you really have no idea what you're doing. Also, if you dont see parts that you want to sign up for listed in the other crew section or on the website, write out the part you have in mind and give me a brief description of what your job is. Chances are, youll get the part and maybe Ill add a description to the website.

Position Descriptions

Actor As the name implies, you will be acting. It is your job to feel the character, see the character, taste the character, and, most of all, BE THE CHARACTER that you choose. You may be given special filming instructions if your character appears in many scenes that are being filmed majorly in another city (e.g. you play Officer Jenny and you live nowhere near the actors of Ash, Brock, and Misty).

Voice Actors Voice actors are required for the Pocky Monsters at all times, even if a live actor is playing them at the time. Unlike actors, voice actors dont need a set amount of people in an area. All you need is a decent microphone and a way of sending sound files.

Director Your job is to interpret writing into images as you see fit. There can be more than one director since there will be filming going on in different cities. Keep in mind that the actions I write arent the only ones that can exist and dont think you have to do everything that I write either. Feel free to have actors ad lib, improvise if they cant handle remembering their lines, etc. Just make sure you dont get too far off the storyline. Wouldnt that be confusing for everyone else?

Script Writers/Editors Yes, we have spots for writers. Since Pocky Monsters is an Anime Backstage script, which traditionally have parodies of commercials in them, Im looking for very short skits to play as commercials (Ill accept short skits this time around). These will be posted on the website along side Pocky Monsters for editing by script editors. Parts will be assigned to whoever wants them. The Pocky Monster script also needs much editing at this point. It is currently not avaliable on the Internet, however. ^_^ It's so convienient I can't even stand it.

Cameramen/Women You will be bossed around by the director and film the scene. Remember the most important of the rules of thumb: dont spray the camera! This part is not recommended for people with ADD and/or a very unsteady hand like my brother.

Area Coordinator The title of "area coordinator" is given to one person in the area. Of course, if the area is freaking huge with lots of small groups, or there are a ton of people in a small area, there may be more than one area coordinator. The area coordinators job is to keep track of what other people in their area are doing. For example, some areas may have a shortage of cameramen/women so actors may have to film when they are not on scene even though they didnt sign up for it. This is something the area coordinator would let me know about, so I can give that person credit. Another job of theirs is getting people together to film, if the director doesnt take care of that. If there is no one who claims the part of Area Coordinator, the part will be given by default to the director(s) or to a person who has given me much information.

Project Coordinator My job! ^_^ I figure you might want to know why the hell I get to boss people around when Im miles away. I basically get the project on the road and then act as a mentor: answering questions, providing resources, posting information, etc. I also keep track of what everyone is doing for the credits by getting information from my area coordinator robotsI mean people.

Video Editors This is another one of my main jobs, however, I think I might need the help of one or two other people particularly for the scenes that require special effects. I may also assign video editors the task of editing commercials written by other writers. Id prefer if you had something better than Windows Movie Maker, something A LOT better than Windows Movie Maker in fact.

Costume Designers There are a couple blanks that I have left in the character design section of the script specifically for costume designers. You will be designing the costumes of all the live action Pocky Monsters and some characters that play small parts like Chuck Norris, Fat Ass, Cheerio Guy/Girl, and Golf Hole. You will also being coming up with alternatives if some part of a costume cannot be found. OR you can scratch whatever costume, makeup, and hairstyle Ive written in the script and start from scratch!

Sound Designers You will find/create sound effects that fit nicely into the video. Examples include punching sounds, kicking, blood splatter, footsteps, etc.

Soundtrack Artists Normally, I illegally put techno music or Final Fantasy VII music into home made movies. Itd be nice if we actually had a sound track though. You will also be composing and recording the beginning and ending themes. There is Pokmon sheet music out there, if you would like to do a heavy metal cover of the Pokmon opening theme or something. There probably will be some original Pokmon music to go alongside the sound track as well. Remember kids; stay legal because Im not.

Fight Choreographer As you may have noticed, there are several long drawn out Pocky Monster battles and human battles with very little action written in the script to speak of. The fight choreographer gets the fun job of choreographing all these battles in any way they choose: stop frame animation, flash animation, live actor battle (recommended), etc. You will be in charge of doing, or finding a team to do it for you, the stop frame animation, finding someone to do flash animation and who can draw a decent Pocky Monster, or finding live actors with experience in fighting (if you want it to be a more serious fight rather than comical). Yes, there can be more than one fight choreographer. I must admit, it is a pretty daunting task considering one fight in particular goes on for two scenes.

Stop Frame Animator The Stop Frame Animator gets the job of animating the Pokmon plushies in a process similar to claymation. You can make this animation as crappy or as awesome as you would like it to be. If you animate the character in front of a solid colored screen or wall (AKA a green screen), this will be very helpful to the video editors as we can add the Pokmon into scenes later and have them following actors, run onto scene, fly into scene, etc. with very little frame by frame masking.

Sound Guy/Girl You run around with a microphone and record some decent sound since the video cameras most of us have generally suck at recording sound. You must have a decent digital sound recorder (or analog if it sounds good and you have a way of putting it on a computer) that you know how to work. Talents you must have are the ability to stay quiet and out of the video during filming (no giggling, scoffing, burping, etc.).
