| Discipline Plan Nurturing self-respect is one of our primary goals. A positive classroom atmosphere is the mutual responsibility of both teachers and students. In order to deal with behavioral situations that arise it is essential to have a Discipline Plan of Action. Classroom Rules and Expectations 1. Follow directions. 2. Listen Carefully. 3. Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working. 4. Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions. 5. Respect school and personal property. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 6. Work and play safely. Rewards 1. Verbal praise 2. Non-verbal "pat on the back" 3. Free time 4. Positive note or phone call to parent 5. Points/tickets on classroom behavior plan 6. Special class activity or award Consequences Each student is encouraged to have a "Bright, Sun Shiny Day". Students begin each day on a sunny yellow card. Students know they "Don't Want the Sun to Go Down" on them throughout the day. When students are caught breaking the rule, they must pull a card from our classroom color behavior system. Yellow---SUNsational Second Grade Student! Orange---Warning of improper behavior and lose part of priviledge, such as recess. Red-------Lose a priviledge to think about actions. Purple----Fill out Plan of Action form, lose priviledge, and notify parents to help remedy situation. *Any action or behavior that is extreme will be dealt with swiftly by notifying parents and having a disciple form filed out and on file. Roadrunners Reading in Peace (RRIP) At the beginning of each morning for approximately 20 minutes, students participate in RRIP time. This is an uninterupted, silent, and sustained amount of time where students are selecting and reading books with assistance at their "zone of proximal development" (zpd). At this time they may take AR tests on their book, may have a "one on one" conference book share with me, may participate in a book club or center, or prepare to do a book share with their classmates. Students are encouraged to select a variety of books as well as those that are of interest to them. Homework In our class, homework is used to practice and solidify the objectives that students are introduced to in class as a way to retain and utilize the newly learned skills. I only give enough homework necessary for practice and preparation for future grades. Students are required to read nightly during the school weekdays for at least 15-20 minitues. They have have a reading log in order to record this. I encourage parents to read to their children and allow their children to read to them! Students are responsible for completing and turning in the weeking spelling, math, and other assignments found on thier homework calendar. It is important that you and your child discuss the contents of his/her folder or MOOSE notebook nightly. Please do not ask for advance assignments. Ample opportunity will be given to absentees to make up missed assignments. Moose notebook The MOOSE notebook (Management of Organizational Skills Everyday) is a three ring binder that will contain everything necessary to keep students and parents informed about school activities and academic progress. This notebook should be transported from home to school everyday. Pleae see all the information about our MOOSE NOTEBOOKS. Library and Accelerated Reading Books Students have access to the library at least every other day. They may check out two AR books at a time. I encourage students to bring home thier library book in the evening to read and share at home, and then bring it to school to read and test on during RRIP time. Students should be taking at least 2 to 3 AR tests a week while reading picture books, and at least 1 test a week for chapter books. See ACCELERATED READING for more information. |
