DOCC

THE PROJECT SITE:

The Keso Wal village near Narowal district in Punjab. Most of the men are brick kiln laborers, carpet weavers and Farmers but the female weave carpets only at home looms. Almost all of these families are living below the poverty line. They earn less than Rupees 2500.00 (US $32.00) per month which is insufficient to meet the needs of an average family size of seven. The community does not have a Church building, therefore they are out of religious activities even for their Sunday services.  In times for their medical needs they have to travel 6 to 8 miles to get basic health services.  For complete care they have to travel 28 to 30 miles to the proper town of Sialkot, for which they certainly need more money, transport and time.

NEED ASSESSMENT - "A MULTI PURPOSE COMMUNITY CENTER"
As a result of the need assessment done, the community emphasized the need for constructing a "Community Center" on a site made available for them.  The community center would house their most pressing needs i.e. a Church, a Day Care Center, five classrooms for primary school, adult literacy, Sewing centre and a room for providing basic medical services.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:

  • To alleviate poverty amongst the village community
  • To support the social, educational and religious needs of the Christian families
  • To raise the quality of life and respect of the Christians in society
  • Discourage child labor and bonded brick kiln labor
