Dobroyd Pt 93 vs UTS 65 and 4/40

The Kanoots Won the toss and bowled then the Kanoots best fielding display of the season. Bowlers bowled stunningly and fielders were just as good with Mat Overnell taking his first two catches of his career as substitute. At the end of day one we were 0/30 chasing 65. Day two saw the now patented Dobroyd Point collapse to lose 8/20 and be 8/50 Suzor and Nolan chipped away with ones and twos to hit the winning runs. UTS tried ridiculously to get an outright but stumps were called at 5.30 to see Dobroyd as C Grade Premiers.  Conolly 5/18..

This was a great display winning the toss and batting the full 80 overs with the entire line up chipping in. The Bowling was then immaculate supported by the fielders with a catch at first slip from the first ball of the innings watch out UTS in the Grand Final.  Raper 38, Conolly 30 Hancock 4 wickets..

Dobroyd Pt 97 vs Lambs 3/73

This One Day Game was washed out. Tait was brilliant with his batting as was Mark Gliddon in his Debut as Skipper but the day is rememberd for Matt Overnell scoring his first runs for the club and in fact any competitive cricket including his first Boundary and taking his first two wickets - all against the might of the Lambs !!!!!  Tait 55.

Dobroyd Pt 153 vs UTS Green 4/173

Dropped catches the the horrible reality to this loss. Nass put down one tough chance including their top scorer but was certainly not on his own as four others joined him including Chris Taylor taking one off a no ball. Created enough chances to have probably got us home. Sound familiar?  Raper 38, McKenzie 24.

Dobroyd Pt 136 vs Rissoles 146

Another heartbreaking loss. This time not being able to chase 146 after at one stage having the Rissoles 3/2 and 6/60.  A terrific partnership from Tait(38) and Suzor(27) of 45 for the 8th wicket almost got us home. Merrick Zawitz chipped in with 37. The tail showed some real fight. The Kanoots gave 3 LBW's in the innings and have given the 2nd most for season 2004/5 in the BDCA up to date.

Dobroyd Pt 4/129 vs Summer Hill 124

Dobroyd Demons played the previously undefeated Summer Hill Sprogs? on Saturday in a 40 over a side game. Summer Hill batted first and made hard work of it, getting all out for 124 off 37 overs. Lloyd picked up 4/34 and Matt McDonald got 3/42. The highlight of the fielding was Stevie Taylor's "A" frame catch. Very reminiscent of the old Village People days.....you know...YMC'A'.

Dobroyd came out to bat with John Lindsay opening. He hit the first ball of the innings for 4 and went on to make a creditable 26. Mick Canvin (41 not out) and Raff Ramira (38 not out) bought the Demons home with the loss of only 4 wickets. Demons finished at 4 for 129 off 31 overs. A comprehensive win that puts us back into finals contention.

Balmain Drummoyne C. A.

At the half way point the Kanoots lost the Toss and bowled Having Drummoyne RSL Rissoles all out for 146. A remarkable improvement on the fielding the previous week. All Eight bowlers bowled well and the Kanoots are in a good position for victory.

Dobroyd Pt 193
vs Wolf Chokers 3/209

A disappointing result considering just before tea on week one the Kanoots were 1/109 with Nimrod Nyols on 50 and Robby Abbonizio on 57 to see the loss of 9/84 against a team yet to record a win for the season. Forty degree heat, Seven dropped catches,  a missed runout and two catches off no balls when in the field made for a difficult days cricket. Scott Connolly was inspirational with 14 overs in the heat, up the hill, into the wind, with the old ball to have the only economical figures of the day with 1/43.

After 5 rounds: Callan Park 33, Lambs 32*, BOB 31* UTS Bats 26, Youth XI 15*, WolfChokers 21, Rissoles 19*, Dobroyd Point 17, Shanachies 15,Young Bats 13*, , Rats 11. *indicates bye.

Dobroyd Pt 160
beat Callan Park 127

A tremendous effort from the Kanoots. The Bowling and fielding was outstanding. Great catches were taken by  Heath McKenzie, Paul Nolan, Robby Abbonizio and Greg Tait who also did a great job as keeper in his debut for Dobroyd. Scott Connolly 4/30odd bowled brilliantly particularly in his second spell on a ground he is starting to love. He was well supported by James "Roger Twose" Hancock 4/17. Paul Nolan did a great job with the new ball and Mat Raper and Heath McKenzie did a great job in the middle of the innings supporting the strike bowlers with good accurate containment. Callen Park now defeated for the first time this year by a real spirited Kanoots side.

Rissoles 180 (Chris McRae 76, Craig Vincent 56, Steve Goodwin 4/37)  bt Rats 101 (Pete Watson 5/21) and 9/70.

Canterbury Western Suburbs C. A.

The Demons played the first day of their two day game against Earlwood Wanderers at Hughes Oval on Saturday. Demons batted first and the scoring went along at the usual cracking rate. Unfortunately, the wickets also fell at the usual cracking rate. Demons scored 147 off about 28 overs. Top scorer was Raff Ramira with 39. Lloyd contributed 27. 147 didn't seem like enough as the gound at Hughes is a little on the small side.

Lloyd managed to snag 2 wickets in his first over and things were looking pretty good. Earlwood then produced some big hitting and Lloyd was hit out of the attack, and the ground, and the suburb. He had to take a short break from the game while he looked through a vegetable patch on the other side of the canal for the cricket ball he had just bowled. In the meantime, Jeff Boyd was discussing certain physical shortcomings of the batsman and it looked like an interesting game was developing.

Daniel Carrabetta had a sensational day in the field, taking 3 catches and saving at least 40 runs with some superb fielding. At the end of the day, Earlwood were 6 for about 110, with tweedle dee and tweedle dum currently occupying the crease. Lloyd came back to the bowling attack and managed to snag a couple more wickets to finish the day with 4 for 40.

Next week the Demons are confident of getting the remaining 4 wickets to wrap up the game.

 23/10 and 30/10/2004

Canterbury Western Suburbs C. A.

Demons Week one was washed out so Our game on 30/10 was reverted to a 35 over a side game against Concord West. We had a pretty good start with Matty McDonald getting a wicket in the first over. Lloyd got a wicket in his first over as well and things were looking good for Dobroyd. Concord West made a lot of dodgy calls for wides and no balls in an effort to get their score going. Boydy ran the side well and got 7 people to have a bowl. All bowlers did pretty well, with 5 of them taking wickets. Two guys took their first ever wickets for Dobroyd. Well done to Nigel and Nav. Matt and Lloyd ended up with 3 each. There was some excellent catching and general fielding. Boydy seemed to know where the next catch would go and then move himself there. Talk about hogging the ball! The enemy, with the assistance of about 29 sundries scored 148.

Dobroyd were looking comfortable with the run chase until an unfortunate hat trick got rid of Matt, Nigel and Anthony. Matt made a typically aggressive 24. Boydy and Raf looked to have things under control until Boydy decided to drill one straight into the point fielder. It was catch it or die. Sadly, he caught it. A stylish 20 to JB. Raff went on to top score with 38.

Unfortunately, Dobroyd fell 10 runs short scoring 138 off our 35 overs and tasted defeat for the first time this season. Stand out performances from Matt McDonald, Jeff Boyd and Raff Ramira.

Balmain Drummoyne C. A.

Kanoots struggled against Mark Galvin of UTS Bats who took match Figures of 8/26 from 36 overs. Bowled out for 74 in the first innings, Robby 25. A big effort was put in with the ball, UTS 7/187 dec Gliddon 2/5 and Stef Suzour getting a stumping at his first go as keeper. The 2nd innings was to save face and it was done With Nimrod opening the innings well and Matt Raper Showing some resistance. Nabil Jamour tried his best to set them a target and also batted quite well. After the loss of Mat and Nabil there were still 22 overs to face with 2 wickets in hand Scott Connoly and Paul Nolan showed the rest of us how we should have batted and saw these overs out with ease to save the outright loss. Dobroyd 2nd Innings 7/79 one batsmen short.
