Gerdt was Vogt, or prefect, the highest executive in a village, in Dörpen in this case. Vogtin is the feminine counterpart, and in some instances the wife of a deceased Vogt took over his functions, as happened with Gerdt. Gerdt took over the position of Vogt from his father.

Gerdt is found with three different names. In a document from 1624, in the text he is referred to as Gerdt Bodige, but nevertheless, he signs it ``Gerdt Moller, m�n handt''. The third source is found after his death in the name of his wife, who took over the position of Vogt. She is referred to with the name Boge or Bogen.
