George had been ill for several months before his death and had lived with Mr. and Mrs. George Nicklaus (his cousin) in Parkersburg, but ``several months'' before his death, he moved to Floyd to live with his sister.

This is the George who was also known as ``Black George'' or ``Black Diamond George'', I think. I believe this nickname came about from the color of his tombstone.

George's cousin, Fred Nicklaus, remembered a little about George: Fred vaguely recalled him being called ``cousin George'' without knowing the exact relationship. This George lived with Fred's parents, % George % and Elizabeth and their family in Parkersburg for quite some time. This George ran a pool hall with % Thole Cramer, Sr. % They sold the pool hall to someone and it had a couple of owners before being bought by George's cousin (Thole's brother-in-law), the other % George Nicklaus, Balthazar's son. %

This George's father died in a fire in downtown Parkersburg and George was badly burned on his face and hands trying to save him. He had to have major skin grafts, and Fred remembers that George had no eyebrows --- they were badly burned and never came back. Ernest Nicklaus also added that George's eyes were really bad and watered a lot on account of the fire.
