Learning how to build a computer is a very easy task for some people, and a very hard one for others.

1. The first thing you have to get is a flat desk or big work area.

    Your Check List

1 OS CD (Windows 98 and Windows XP Home or Professional)
1 Boot disk (Windows 98) Floppy disk
1 Hardrive (Western Digital or Maxtor 20GB or over)
1 Computer Case with power supply included
1 3 1/2 Floppy Drive
1 Mother Board (ECS mainboard or Asus) (AMD)462 slot or better
1 CPU AMD (462 Slot) 900Mhz or over
1 SD RAM or DDR RAM 256 MB or more
1 CD ROM or CDR ROM (32 x or above)
2 IDE's (Should be included with motherboard)
1 Monitor (15 inch or higher)
1 Data Fax Modem (56k recommended)
1 Network Card (If not on-board)
1 PS2 Mouse
1 Win 98 or XP Keyboard
2 Power cords(should be included with motherboard and Monitor)

Now you are ready to build.

Just remember you should be free of static when working with these parts.
Use a wrist band or rub your hands on the metal part of the case. You should also try to leave one hand on the case while touching other parts.

1. First you should make sure the motherboard fits in the case. Sometimes you might have to remove the power supply before you insert the motherboard.

Once the board is in place then you can see about the CPU. Sometimes you can insert the CPU before you put in the board, but it really doesn't matter. Just be very careful when handiling the CPU or motherboard. They can be easily damaged.

2. Next look at the manual for the board and see where you sholud put the power switch cords etc.

3. When installing the harddrive and CD-ROM drive they are jumpers that need to be positoned in the correct order. The motherboard will not reconginze anything if  all jumpers are not set correctly.
