The Descendants of Launcelot Granger and Joanna Adams of Suffield CT
Many romantic stories have circulated throughout families as to the background of Launcelot Granger. Since there
is no record of Launcelot being included on the passenger lists of immigrants to America, it is unclear exactly
which ship he arrived on, and the circumstances are sheer speculation. Some stories indicate that he arrived with three
brothers, others that he was kidnapped and forced to become a cabin boy. We do know, however, that Launcelot came from England to New England in 1643. He was seventh in descent
from John Adams, Knt. He married Joanna, daughter of Robert Adams, of Newbury, Mass., who came to Ipswich, Mass., in 1635.
